FTP help

I am trying to change the background of the homepage or springboard on my itouch with update 2.0/2.1 can someone help me I think I have to FTP but I'm not sure how. Please help!

You only need SMB preferences, which you can get from the installer. Then you install themes and change it around. FTP is mainly adding and removing files which you don't need to do to add the background unless you download it from the computer.

sorry i dont know very much about modding itouch at all what do you mean by i can get smb preferences from the installer? what installer? and how do you get it

You need to jailbreak your itouch, if you haven't already check the itouch modding section they tell you how. Then when it is jailbroken you will most likely be given an installer app or something along those lines. In that installer you can install an app called SMB preferences which allows you to change the theme and springboard.

ok so i have the jailbreak 2.1 gui and its asking me to browse for the firmware bundle (IPSW) i currently have on my device. how do i get it off of my ipod or update it or whatever.

Yep, if by "new Firmware" you mean 2.0.2

what Are you using to Jailbreak? I would try it with the Firmware you Just Down-loaded.

I didnt download any firmware. i cant find any on my computer its only on my touch so how do you download it from the touch with ftp or whatever this is really annoying to just change my spring board background. can someone please just tell me how to get the firmware file 2.0/2.0.1/2.0.2?

Dont use quickpwn. use winpwn, its alot easier.

ok theres two problems:

1. i put the ipod into developers mode or whatever its called by holding home and sleep and then just holding home for 15 seconds. then i clicked SHIFT+Restore in itunes and i browsed for and selected the update (i tried it with both iphone restore 2.0.1 and ipod restore 1.1.1) and it started doing stuff and then it said it failed for an unknown reason.

2. i cant edit the restore 2.0.1 unless i click on iphone instead of ipod and i think it might still work but i cant restore it like i said above ^

it is because i have the 2nd generation with speakers or what? and if you have a link to the restore 2.0.1 for ipod NOT iphone that would be great.

Please help i cant use it cause its in developers mode and i'm waiting for something to do....

if you want to get out of DFU mode, just click restore instead of shift+Click. and then when it is all restored it will restore the back up.

I will link you to the 2nd Generation iPod Firmware. and the iPhone firmware will work fine. thats What I used, gimme a sec and Ill Edit this post with the link.

i cant use winpwn because when its helping me put it into dev mode or whatever it says to turn it off and plug it in and i did so and i clicked ok and it says its still on but it wasnt.

and when i use itunes and shift+restore it says:

cant you just give me the ipod restore 2.0.1 instead of iphone?

here is my Jailbroken firmware. All you need to do is DL it and then extract the file, save it on your desktop, Shift Click Restore, Browse to the Desktop and select my firmware that you just DLed.

that is very wierd. I have never heard of anything like this happening. is your Ipod 3g? or is it first Gen?

Edit*** This is a Clean 100% untouched 2.0.1 firmware for the IpodTouch. Try this one, if it doesnt work then I dont know what to tell you.

It's the brand new iPod touch 2nd generation with volume buttons and a built in speaker. I'll try that one you gave me but I don't think it will work...

Itunes 8 has put a block where it scans the frimware before it is written to your ipod. Their is a way around it but im not sure what it is or if its even been released yet.
i would suggest downgrading to itunes 7.7 then jailbreaking then re upgrading to itunes 8.
