Ipod Video 30GB Is Dead (HELP)

Well I got this 30GB Black Ipod Video from my friend. He said it just one day stopped working, just like that. I suspect the battery is completely dead. Its not his charger because he got a 80GB classic.

I have tried all the trouble shooting tips the Hold/Center thing! Everything I get no flicker on screen or anything.

Now I have opened it up! So what are my options?

I have no idea what firmware I have or anything. I ordered a new battery from Ebay 2 hours ago. Do you think the battery died? Or something else?

you should have taken it to the apple store first, they would have fixed it for free, but now that it's opened they won't. Best bet is to install the new battery, then if that's not the problem check to see if its the screen, the battery could be fine but the screen died and that's why you cant see anything.

My friend took it to the Apple Store. They said it was an internal problem and would charge money to fix it. What ever that means. So he just bought the 80GB classic.

Now I dont have a USB charger yet, but I just bought one, should be here within 3 days. How can I figure the screen is the problem?

if you replace the battery and you still see nothing, its probably the screen. The Apple store would also have taken it and deducted an amount if you decided to but a 60/80/120

How do they know I opened it? I opened it with my hands. And any advice? Like I don't get the Home/Menue thing. What do you do? Do you know of a way I can get a message on my screen? Or maybe my ipod battery works? Screen is out? Like would I figure it out if I plug in my headphones?

plug it in and if itunes sees it, then its probably the screen, if not, the battery.

Also leave it on the charger overnight, if it melts, its the battery.

Well my friend never gave me a charger. I took it to GS (Geek Squad) because they could apparnely tell what the problem was. And it was the charger, I got a new one and it works. Free Ipod 30GB FTW
