Answer these questions.

1. What kind of Ipod do you have running on what firmware.
2. How old is your Ipod
3. Have you ever dropped it hard?

im pretty sure your battery is dead or dieing. meaning it can no longer hold a charge. which is why it just dies when u unplug it. but we still need to know what Synikal asked.

Mine does it sometimes. I'm thinking it's the charger or cable.

Its your battery, I had a stock Video iPod and after a year the battery died. I took it to Best Buy and they claimed they could fix it and I embarrassed there sales rep when I proved him wrong (i'm only 14 so I know he was embarrassed >.<.) You will need to go to Best Buy or whatever electronic store you purchased your video from and say the battery died. They usually send you the same one claiming they "fixed" it. If it doesn't work after that then you can finally send it into Apple and they will either give you a new one or they will fix your old one.

P.S. if your warranty is up your screwed.

go to apple store, tell them ipod wont hold charge, they will give you a form, in about a week they will call you to come in, give you a refurbished one.
