Locked Screen?

Well my sister has an Ipod Nano 2nd Generation and she wants me to fix this:

When it turns on it has a screen that says, "Enter Code" at the top and a place to put 4 digits as a locking combination.

Isn't this just a feature on the ipod that allows you to lock it like this? If so, how would i remove it? Because it was probably one of her friends messing with it and it got to this stage.

Force into disk mode, plug into computer, restore ipod.

Well, doesn't the iPod manual say that if you just plug in your iPod you can unlock it from itunes? It does that for my video.
