If you still have a valid warranty you should return it. I don't know what's wrong (it might not be serious at all) but you might as well get a new one if you can.

I know what that is. First can you start up you ipod and tell me if there is a clicking noise. Next plug it into the com and restore if that doesn't work then let me know

This happened to me, my ipod was like freaking out. This happens when you unplug it when is says "DO NOT UNPLUG" or when your computer freezes while it was updating.

Although In most cases if you hear a clicking noise when it starts up and starts up a song then its probly that your hard drive has craped out and that really sucks cuase my ipod just did that like 2 months ago..

BEFORE YOU GO OFF RESTORING CRAP plug it in for 24 hours straight. it may be a little warm/hot after wards. unplug it and hold down the middle button+menu for about 5-20 seconds, it should stop doing it and be fine

that happened to mine. I replaced my old iPod hard drive 3 times and it still didn't work. I just upgraded to a video iPod so I stopped trying to fix it. But most likely it is either your HDD or your motherboard.

God when it is plugged in does your pc recognize it? As long as it recognizes it just run the ipod updater. That should fix it, if that does not work, you can probably find the best help in the forums of ipodlinux.org Those guys will know what to do.
