A Noob's Guide to Changing iPod Strings

In this totally noob proof tutorial I will teach you how to edit your iPod’s strings using iPodWizard v1.3.



Things you will need.
iPodWizard v1.3 (really any version will do, but ill be using v1.3)
RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

Your iPod (duh!)

(Must be supported by iPodWizard)

Step 1
Plug in your iPod

Step 2
Close out of iTunes or anything that uses your iPod.

Step 3
Open up iPodWizard.

Step 4
1. In the drop down box at the top left corner, select “iPod”
2. Then hit the “Load iPod Firmware” button next to it.



Step 5
1. Click on the “Strings” tab.
2. Change the Lang Block to 24.



**Now here is where it gets a little tricky.
You will have to search for the string you want to change. (ex. iPod or Music etc)
We’re just say you want to change where it says iPod in the title bar, to your cat’s name.

Step 6
1. Type the word “ipod” (without quotes) in the search bar. (not case sensitive)
2. Click the “find” button and then keep hitting the “find next” button until you find the correct string you are looking for. In this case it should be the one under the string called “legal”



Step 7
1. Type in whatever you want to change it to in the “change string” box. For the tutorial we will use my cat’s name, MidNight.
2. Then hit the “change string” button.
(After you hit the button, a popup will come up saying that the string was successfully changed. Hit ok)



Step 8
1. Once you’ve changed all that you want to, hit “Write”
(IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING WHILE IT IS WRITING. ALSO, LEAVE IPW AS THE PRIMARY PROGRAM WHILE ITS WRITING)
2. Hit the eject button and let your iPod reboot! Enjoy your new string!




What I changed on my iPod strings:
1. I changed iPod in the title bar to my first and last name.
2. My main menu consists of the following

• Music
• Photos
• Videos
• Extras
• Games
• Settings
• Sleep

Now it says:

• My Tunes
• Scrapbook
• Productions
• Applications
• Activities
• Configuration
• Kill iPod

WARNING: do not be an idiot and just start changing a bunch of crap. use common sense.

wow i knew about loading strings and stuff but i never played around with it enough thats kind of cool
lol i already need to restore because i need to know how to do the triboot on vista and when i do it ill probly try this


EDIT if you guys want ill post one on how to edit what it says on your IPL boot loader

yeah, i studied the strings for a while, had a lot of trial and error situations, but now ive got it pretty much figured out. the only problem is there is some stuff that you dont need to change.

but yeah, that would be cool. please post that.

LOL not to sound like a noobie but are what the strings and what can they do for me? I have the Ipod mini the one that plays the videos, shows, and more the 4gig one.

its more for color ipods but it can change text colors, change the thing that says ipod at the top, and some other things
