Triboot ipod (linux, rockbox, Mac OS)

This tutorial will show you how to create a tri-boot for your ipod video

First their are a few things you should know

there is no way to brick your ipod
this tut is only tested on videos
if you ever have a problem with it booting to a single OS with out going to the main screen hold in MENU + the center button
then on the reboot hold in the center button
any themes for Mac OS should be installed first
you will not loose all your music if you do it right the first time
don't update your ipod in itunes
Parts are not interchangeable they must be done in the order presented

Is it hard?
i needed to reformat 12 times before i got it right but then again i was guessing how to do it cus i din't have a tut. Honestly if you fallow this your shouldn't have any problems

How do i know weather my ipod is a 5G or a 5.5G?
Simple if your ipod has a search feature when you click music its a 5.5G
it it doesn't then its a 5G

What do i need?

Every thing you need can be found in these folders

5G 60 gig

Part one: Installing rockbox

Step one: Drag the called ".Rockbox" in to your ipod root
this means when copying yoru screen sould look simualar to this

Step Two: Run the file called "ipodpatcher.exe"

Step three: type "i"
(i stands for install)

Part two: Installing the duel boot

(this is the hard part)

Step one: go to start>run>CMD

Now it sould open a comandprompt window alot like the other one It should look like this

Step two: go to the file that you unziped called second
type "cd" (+a space after it) and copy the address to that folder in to command prompt

Step three: hit enter

step four: you should get a brand new line that has the directory that you typed

step five: type this exactly

ipodpatcher -ab loader.bin

Step six: hit enter

if done correctly you should get something like this

Part three: Installing linux

Step one: go into the folder called third

Step two: run 5gipl.exe

it should look like this

Step three: click next

Step four: wait for it to install (your computer may make buzzing noises lol just ingore them)

Step five: once you get this your done eject your ipod and enjoy your tri boot

thats whats used in my iPod Nano tutorial. (do you know miche's current webstie? because when i got the nano one his webhosting soon supsended his account)

yeah if only part 2 was that easy it was mad hard to explain Noob proof but i tried lol

tomm im gunna make one on how to install themes and how to install the Ultamate background/ Itouch skin/ ipod classic skin
and probly one on how to install games cus thats just Download, drag and drop

i love the loader cause you can choose w.e you want to run.

i believe i saw sumwhere on the ipodlinux.org forums that you can put games into the loader? and just run the games. but i have no clue what ipod that was for. or maybe im wrong all together lol

yeah i saw that 2 the need to be specially made to go on their tho

but rockbox comes with like 20 something games lol so im amused with that

if you read the bullets i told you that if you hold on the center button in while rebooting it will go to the pick your os screen

and as for it not being recoginezed thats probly cus your booting in to linux/rockbox

but if youve done all that and it still doest work you can force it in to disk mode by pressing

menu+center
then when its rebooting
menu+play/pause
and you can restore it

it works with most ipods but the only ones i tested it on where 5G and 5.5G

that halo theme rocks i would wanna do the alien one but it wont format for my ipod right il wait for that tut and *ive fixed it* but i want linux too and you might wanna post links to where you can dl games for rockbox

ive got it on my ipod the only thing i dont like is when u play a song the bar that tells the time and the circe thing isnt letting me go to my boot screen
