Great....

You just learned how to get a program to do common sense things. Good for you.

The EASY way to do this, is to choose the installation directory on install and install it on the ipod.... >.<

BTW, if you run a high density program (such as WoW) that needs to be spinning the ipod disc constantly, you'll kill your ipod hard drive.

well what programs do you think it could run because on the site for this thing it says its for gamming so idono ?? :-/ i mean i know u can install programs but could this program help not kill the disk? because why would they make a program is all u had to do is simply install stuff directly to the root?

Why would they make a program? Because some people aren't smart enough to know how to do it themselves.

It kills the hd because the ipods hd doesn't run often. Most of the song information is stored in RAM so the HD can spin down and save battery life. If you have something running the hard drive at full speed constantly in such a small space on a drive that's not meant to do that, AND without any cooling, you're asking to buy a new hard drive.

not neccissaroly... the ipod HD may not have cooling, but does any other HD have cooling stock? no, the ipod hd peaks at 60C and thats pretty hard to get to plus when it reaches that, it shuts off, so if it did happen your game would lock up, and no the HD is ALWAYS spinning while a song is playing because the song is stored on the HD not the ram, thats why when you play a song you can hear it spinning all the way through the song. if anything runing a game from it would only make it warm

Several things wrong....

1.)ALL HD'S HAVE COOLING STOCK, because they're in a case with air circulation. Even if an hd doesn't have cooling it's in an area that DOES

2.) The HD is NOT always spinning full speed during a song. I dare ya, look it up on apple's website. The song is loaded from the HD and then the hd is turned down to save battery life.

3.) If you want to run a game on it, be my guest. Just don't come crying to me when your ipod gets fried because you were playing BF2142 off of it.

ok maybe not older ipods, but the new videos, ipods only have like 16 megs of ram tops, and if your playing a movie on it your NOT going to be able to store a 800 MB video on your "Iram" and yes if you watching a movie the HD is always spinnign at full speed

plus you dont believe me its spinning? play a movie, and stick your year up to the ipod, you hear it dont you?

So what if it's spinning when you're playing a movie?

Even if you CAN play a game/app from your ipod, who ever says you won't bottleneck like **** going through a USB connection from a 5400 rpm hard drive?

wow... too much arguing. im going to settle this. while playing a movie on the ipod the harddrive is spinning full speed which isnt good for it but its not going to hurt it unless you do its every day for years. meaning that this program is not going to hurt the ipod any time soon and the worst thing that could happen short term is yur game locking up

whatever man.....

you're also forgetting that you'll bottleneck like **** because of the low rpm, and trying to force it to a higher rpm to get the game actually playable is what'll cause it to die.

that, and heat issues.

Dem is right. my friend was watching a movie on his ipod while he was sitting on the beach in 90 degree weather and his ipod locked up. he reset it, and tried it later and it worked fine. i only hear my HDD spinning while adding stuff and watching long videos.

Apple can't really do anything about this, but one of the main problems with this is heat. The iPod is in a container and can't get airflow, and therefore builds up heat quickly when the hard drive is working.

If you're ever watching a video, if you touch the metal backing you'll see that it's warm.

wow, I see some ppl have lost common sense. Why would you run such high intensity programs on something so compact?

It's not really the compact part, more of the "not built to do it" part.

there is the possibility of making air flow, ie drilling holes in it, but i dont see the point of putting all th pc programs on an ipod.

Well, you could take open the case and add a couple fans to it.

But that would defeat the purpose of actually having it ON the ipod.

the easy way to do this is just use you ipod as a hardrive and put the .exe file on the root of your ipod drive then just copy it to the computer that you want to have the program on and run it off the comp that way no broken ipod...

Pimp you would get a registry error when you tried to open it up

plus perhaps Dem you make sense, but heat on my 80g is no issue
i had my ipod play a 3 hour movie and the backplate was not even warm, in fact absolutely no temperature difference from any other metal thing in the room
