Soldering Iron and LEDs help

What soldering iron/gun w.e. they are called should I get to do the ring of light mods on the 360 console itself and controller. Where can I get it. I'd rather get this at a store, but will order online if I need to.

Also, what kind of LEDs do I need for the RoL on the console? and what kind do I need for the controller RoL. Where can I get them? These I'd rather just order online.

Thanks.

You can get the LEDS here: SICKmods Shop: Unique Devices To Customize Your Console

Any 15 or 30w soldering iron from Radio Shack should be fine though. Make sure you get some rosin core solder as well.

Be warned. Surface mount soldering is not really for a beginner, and these LEDs are really quite small. Good Luck!

Re: Soldering Iron and LEDs help

I am trying to do this myself atm but having trouble getting the items. If your gonna do it make sure you have the right screwdrivers! Only use a 15 - 40 watt Soldering iron and keep the tip clean. Also but 1 or 2 more LEDs in case you burn one out.

Sorry I couldn't help about the whereabouts as I get mine in the UK. I may only be 14 and trying but I have a little experience from school and read loads of tuts.

Re: Soldering Iron and LEDs help

I was wondering the same thing. I found a solder iron in the basement I am like OOO COOL! Anyways bought a **** load of LED for my ROL/Controller/AXBY. My dad knows how to solder so I am going to hopefully learn it this week .

Have a PS3 coming in so I may forget.

Hey man, be very careful with what your dad says. My dad says the thing, which I still don't doubt him, but with xboxes and electronics it's much different. First off, you'll need 0603 SMD's, 5 of them to be exact. For a soldering Iron, no more than a 15W which you can easily get from a local Radioshack. You can also use the same 0603 LEDs on your controller. I'm going to be writing many tutorials soon on how to do so, and I'll be opening a mod shop soon and I'll be modding ROLs
