| Novice | Bungie's stance on Modding As a short introduction to myself, a long time ago I always searched through here as a guest. I then used an alibi account (was Sonja; that username may be deleted if a Admin wants to). I found out you guys were completely legit, so here is my real name. Now, anyone that is too lazy to read the details, skip to the star* at the bottom of this post. Bungie has started to take their stance on modded content. For any that have been banned and are complaining (or thinking of complaining), BUngie said this, "While it seems harsh, there was a warning here on Bungie.net and for several months there has been a tip in-game warning of cheating auto detection." Anyone that puts modded content into their fileshare will get one of these three things: 1. Account permanently banned from MM. 2. Permanent loss of File Share Functionality. 3. Xbox hardware banned from Halo 3 from a month. In serious cases (ie: porn) you may be banned from X-box Live. Bungie said, "Our definition of modified content is content that is created or uploaded outside of the parameters of what can be done using the game-provided tools. This includes but is not limited to: “hacked” variations of maps and screenshots that are not Halo 3 images (you know what these are)." If you rename a file, or alter it's description, the system considers you the author. If you share it that way with friends and they're stupid, you may get one of the three punishments provided by the banhammer. For anyone that thinks that they can 'trick' the Halo 3 system by changing the author, you cannot do that. Here is a statement from Bungie about this, "Simply renaming the content is not going to shift the onus of ownership from you to say, Shishka – the system is smarter than that." * Bungie's stance as of July that still stands is this, "Fair warning: Users who have modified content on their File Share - regardless of who created said content - will be subjected to the full power of the Banhammer’s thrust. This includes some never-before-unleashed technology that will effectively terminate your Halo multiplayer experience online in every imaginable facet." Most of us here at Se7ensins don't need most of this information, but, there is always the uninformed person lurking around the street corner...waiting... |
