Halo 3: How to Bridge with a Crossover Cable

(In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to bridge host in Halo 3 using the crossover cable method)

What is Crossover Cable Bridging? It is when you bridge your Connections directly through your computer so that you don't need Cain and Abel or any other program. This allows you to give someone else host in Halo 3.

Requirements
Crossover Cable. Buy here - Geek Squad® - 7' Cat 6 Crossover Cable - GS-7CRC6 If you don't know where to get one then make one - http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/hard...ver-cable.html
Zone Alarm (Pro or Regular/free) - ZoneAlarm by Check Point - Award winning PC Protection, Antivirus, Firewall, Anti-Spyware, Identity Protection, and much more.
Commview (Not a Necessity) - commview software downloads and reviews - CNET Downloads
Two Network Cards(NIC) in your Computer (You should already have one, it is the thing that you plug an Ethernet into) - Dynex® - Desktop 10/100 PCI Network Card - DX-E102

Before you get started:

You should already have your Ethernet port installed inside your computer and have the software for it installed on your computer properly.
_______________________________________________

How to Bridge Your Connections

Step 1. Make sure you have your Ethernet cord going from your modem/router to your PC, then have your Crossover Cable going from the PC to the Xbox

Step 2. go into your network connections via the control panel. There should now be two connections. Hold the CTRL key and click the two connections, they should both now be highlighted.

Step 3. Right click either connection to pull down the menu, and pick BRIDGE CONNECTIONS.

Tada, you have bridged your Xbox to your computer, now you are ready to set up Zone Alarm and get closer to bridging your friend host!
________________________________________________

Setting Up Zone Alarm

Step 1:
Open Zone Alarm (A-Duh)

Step 2:
Just for safe keeping, turn your firewall off (make sure you dont have hackers out to get you at this time).
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 2:
Go to your rules(Zones) tab. First thing we wanna do is set your current network from Trusted to Internet. To do that, right click on "Zone" and select "Edit":
Click the image to open in full size.

Now, a small window should pop up. All you have to do is change it from "Trusted" to "Internet" and then press "OK"
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 3:
Now it should be on "Internet", and your window should Just have the New Network IP and the Zone should be on Internet.

Step 4:
Now, time to add IPs. First you need to add Bungie's IP Ranges(65.59.234.0-65.59.234.255 and 65.55.42.0-65.55.42.255).
To add IPs, go down to the bottom-right hand corner and click on "Add>>" and select "IP Range...":
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 5:
Now a small window should pop up, here is where you input the IP Range:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 6:
Here is where I put in one of Bungie's IP Ranges. You can name it whatever you want:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 7:
Here is where I put in the second of Bungie's IP Ranges. You can name it whatever you want:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 8:
Here is where you put your friends IP. (If you don't know how to get his IP, just look here - http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/brow...one-alarm.html or tell him to go to IPchicken.com). Just for example, I'm gonna input a random IP. Make sure you have the right IP(s) also. You can make the description whatever you want:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 9:
Now, make sure the Zones in "Trusted" and then press "OK", your window should now look similar to this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Now, make sure you save the changes by either clicking another and and selecting "OK" at this prompt:
Click the image to open in full size.
Or, on the bottom-right and corner press "Apply," If you do this, it sill be saved and you wont see the prompt above:

Step 10:
Now click on the "Main" tab towards the top of the ZAP Firewall.

Bridging Someone Host

Now that you have ZA set up and your friends IP you are ready to bridge your Friend host.

Step 1:
Tell your friend to go make a party.

Step 2:
Put your firewall on high.
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 3:
Join your friends party.

Step 4:
Start the game and start searching for a match.

Step 5:
Pay attention to your TV screen, but have PATIENCE as it could take a while to find a game. When you finally do get a game, and people start joining (the yellow boxes start to fill up), get your firewall tab and get ready.

When it gets to "CONFIGURING GAME" or when the images of buttons in the lower left hand part of your screen disappear : Wait 1-2 seconds, and then LOWER YOUR FIREWALL TO MED.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 6:
Experiment with times between 2-6 seconds and then put your firewall back on high.
Click the image to open in full size.

If done correctly, your friend should have host in the game. You have to experiment with times that should work for step 6 because you have no way of accurately doing it. If you get the Network Difficulties screen, then you need to lower your firewall as fast as possible because you messed up and your friend doesn't have host. If you don't lower your firewall then you will lag out, if you do lower it then you will stay in the game, but your friend won't have host.

Re: Halo 3: How to Bridge with a Crossover Cable

Chances are I'll use this method...because the cain and abel one is failing me. When I search for MAC Addresses, nothing shows up, the search itself only takes about a second...any advice?

EDIT: I think I figured out why, I'm using a wireless internet connection...

I don't quite understand this part? So when we put the Firewall down at "Configuring Game" we wait 2-6 seconds and put it back up? is that right?

Yes, wait about 2-6 seconds and then put your firewall back on high.

Nice tutorial. I have found that using Cain does help though. If you use it, watch the IPs that come in. Before you lower the firewall there should only be your friends and a few random IPs showing up. Once you lower the firewall, IPs will start flooding in. This is where you need to pay attention. Once all the IPs are an and are "Full-Routing" This is when you raise your firewall back to high. This has worked 95% of the time for me. The only time it hasn't worked is when i raised it to high to soon, or my Cain closed out and i lag out.

Yes, that is called Router Bridging. This tutorial is made for the whole purpose of Bridging when you don't have a Router or if you just prefer this way because it is an easier way to set up a Bridge and people have less trouble with it.

Why don't you try the Router Bridging thread for that question.

Do you have two NIC cards installed and are hooked up with a Crossover Cable?

Re: Halo 3: How to Bridge with a Crossover Cable

Hey, great guide! I can get my friend to pull host everytime... Only problem I have is I cant here the 2 other party members I go in MM with...

For example I go in with 3 party members, I make the 1 guy pull host every time. but I can only hear him in game and not the 2 other guys. I drop the firewall to medium around 30seconds into the game and I can hear them, but then the host sometimes changes.

I am bridging to a friend with 6mb upload and we dont stanby, we are just sick of getting cheated at high level MLG.

The bridger will not be able to hear anyone while in the game because that's how it works because his Firewall is on high. He will only be able to hear the person that he is bridging because he has their IP in his Trusted.

Just keep the firewall to med then since your not doin anytype of cheating it really wouldnt matter if host switches IN GAME.

It kind of does though, because after a minute or 2 into the game I drop my firewall and it changes to a sh*t host... When the host I am bridging too is 6mb upload and everyone is in full green. :/

Re: Halo 3: How to Bridge with a Crossover Cable

Does it 100% have to be a crossover cable?

I think the one cable I have is a crossover cable but I don't know how to tell for sure. I used to have another one back during the Halo2 bridging days but my dog tore it to shreads

How can I tell if its a crossover?

I also don't have "Loopback Adapter" on mine.

You don't need a crossover cable, but it's good to have. You can just use an Ethernet if you don't have one. Some people say that the cable that comes with your 360 is a Crossover. You can look HERE for more info.
Or check out this picture.

You have to use ICS Bridging for that. There is a tutorial in the Halo 2 Bridging section somewhere.

Is lagging somebody out still the same if your host you just put somebody's IP in blocked and raise firewall up?
