Skinning halo 2 with gimp

How to skin with gimp.
Programs needed: entity and gimp.
and the gimp dds plugin (google it its free)

Now lets get started, open entity and the map you want to skin

ok now that we have that open we want to extract what we want to skin, im doing the warthog ok so scroll down to what it is that you want to skin, ok now pay attention to what format it is in i have it highlighted at the bottom,

now at the top right there is a blue plus button (mine showing black) anyway click that and click "save bitmap" and save it as a jpeg file type

now that you have done that open the image in gimp (with the dds plugin installed) and do whatever your going to do.

when you are finished editing in gimp click file (in the image tab) save as then this should apear choose dds:

and now a new window will show up and save it in the origonal format that i told you to pay attention to earlier,


(for the format its under compression for the warthog it would be bci2/dxt3 ect.) now we need to internalize and inject back into the map go to entity and click the blue plus button then click inject and choose whatever you saved yours as (for "objects\vehicles\warthog\bitmaps\tires" you would save as just "tires") and now sign the map ftp and play tutorial brought to you by: NicksMods

worked on it for a while but its nice to see someone enjoyed the efort i put in

am i doing something wrong? i used gimp and used the color hue thingy to tint everything red, then imported the stuff, but in the game it all diferent colors cept for the turret whitch is only half right (part of it is the right color, but the other half is green..????) how do i fix this????

nope, it was something else intireley but its fixed now, and im starting work on my own tut for vista for people using a 360

EDIT: this is a good tut, but its not idiot proof(as iv shown ), so im making one that is.

ugh!! ive skinned with photoshop n gimp but my skins glitch when i play more than 1 person any help?

Thing is, it shouldn't be idiot proof, learn to mod. Thats why the tut is in "Advanced Tutorials". Great tut, nice to see some people are still modding h2.

Well I am doing this with CS2 and the NVidia Plugin how would I save it cause right now I am getting an error on the injection of it.

When I click on the shotgun Bitmap in Entity, I get the numbers 4 & 5 for the format in the bottom right-handish corner. When I got to save a file in GIMP as a .dds what compression do I choose?
