Getting Connected With ICS Sharing

This is not typically done (wired, for wireless it's common), but some ppl use this method and it can still be used to 'bridge'
it is useful when u have a laptop or an older version of windows

U need two ethernet ports or a usb modem.

run an ethernet cable from ur router or modem to ur pc
then run a crossover ethernet cable from ur pc to ur xbox*

*u don't have to use a crossover:
if ur using cain and able (see the appropriate tut)
if u have a router/switch/hub connected between ur pc and ur xbox

to share the connections go to the control pannel and open up the network connections.

u should see two or more connections to the internet (ie wireless, local area connection 1, lac 2, firewire, etc)

select lac 1 (or the one giving ur comp internet) right click and go to properties.
in the advanced tab enable ICS

also check the other box there (it says 'allow other computers to ....')

Click the image to open in full size.

:!: now this isn't everything

now that u have ics enabled try signing into xbl with everything (ip and dns) set to auto-detect

that should do it

 troubleshooting - of course u can't get connected so just follow this guide and try after every paragraph. if this still doesn't do the trick just send me a pm

make sure u have the right connection shared. u should be able to connect to the internet on ur pc still.

now that u have everything set to auto-detect look at the ip on ur xbox (in the troubleshooter screen go to settings then ip) and copy down all the info and put it in manually.

still no? then u probably need to fix the dns. right click on the shared connection in the network connections on ur pc and click on status.
Click the image to open in full size.
now go to support and click on details
Click the image to open in full size.
copy any necessary info to fill in the dns info on ur xbox.

last resort..... look up the gateway ip from the shared connection (look at the status again) now manually put that in to the unshared connection (right click the connection, go to properties,
Click the image to open in full size.
now in the second scroll down menu highligh tcp/ip connection
Click the image to open in full size.
and click properties,
Click the image to open in full size.
in the ip window u wanna fill in the gateway info like i said earlier)
Click the image to open in full size.

hopefully that helps. that's as far as i've been getting everytime i use ics.

Solving ip conflicts with ics:
If u followed my tut correctly, it will not be ur xbox's problem since u allow it to automatically detect an ip. And if u can get on the web it wouldn't be ur computer's problem

My guess is that no one in ur house bothered to configure ur router. This could present a problem, since enabling ics defaults ur wired connection to the ip 192.168.0.1 (which could also be ur router's ip).

To fix this - in the network settings go to the properties of ur wired connection, scroll down the 2nd window to tcp/ip and highlight it. click on properties. There u will see that the ip is set to 192.168.0.1. Now that ip is in conflict - so u wanna change it - but only change the last part. (ie 192.168.0.10).

Re: Getting Connected With ICS Sharing

guys - an ip conflict means that something else on your network has the same ip.

you can fix this by changing the ip from the TCP/IP properties, as I said in the guide
the only thing the guide really lacks there is a picture, hope that you don't get lost over missing a picture, lol.
Click the image to open in full size.

where it says 'ip address' simply put a different ip, such as 192.168.0.110
