Bridging with a Router
Tutorial by Krafty

New updated tutorial:
http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/netw...alarm-pro.html

What do I need to get started?
  1. A Router(Not a hub)
  2. 2 Ethernet Cables(can be normal cables)
  3. A PC with 1 Ethernet Port
  4. Xbox/Xbox 360
What programs do I need?
I have all the programs installed and ready, now what?

Time to set up your hardware, this is how it should go:
Modem-(Ethernet cable to)->Router
Then from your router, you need 2 more ethernet cables,
From one port of your router, Hook 1 ethernet cable going to your Xbox/360
From another port on your router, Hook the other to the functioning ethernet port if your PC.
Sign into Xbox LIVE.

I will take you on a step-by-step procedure to get your bridging through your router, so please read carefully.

Starting with Cain & Abel

Step one:
Open the program
(easy, eh?)

Step two:
Select the "Sniffer" tab and below, make sure teh "Host" tab is above all as well. Your window should look like this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 3:
Press the "Sniffer" button, if a window pops up asking to select which Card, make sure you select the one with the ethernet port and click apply. Then, your window should look like this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 4:
Now make sure the sniffer button is down, now press the blue button(3 buttons from yoru left).
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 5:
Now, a window should pop up.Do not do anything to it, just press OK
But make sure it should look like this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 6:
Now, after you press ok, 2 IPs(If you only have your PC & Xbox on your router) should appear. Note that these will not be the same for you, but you should see a host name that goes by "Microsoft Corp."
If you have more than one computer connected to the router, you will see more than one, which means you have to get the IP which is your Xbox which you can find on the dashboard in Network Settings.
Otherwise, your window should look similar to this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 7:
Remember which one your Xbox and which ones your router, your gonna need to know them soon. Now on the bottom tabs where you see "Host, VoIP, Passwords, Routing, APR," select the APR tab and your window should look like this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 8:
Now, you see the two identical columns? Click on the UPPER ONE, and the blue plus you used before should now be blue.
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 9:
Click the blue plus, and you should be taken to this window:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 10:
Now, read carefully for these next few steps.
On the left you will see the list of all the IPs scanned on your router
Click the IP that is your Xbox(should be M$ Corp). Make sure its the exact IP of your Xbox. After you have done that, an IP(s) will appear on the right:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 11:
On the right, click the IP that is your ROUTER(on the hosts tab, your router IP is the one with the host name of your router Brand, EX:Look at Step 6, my router is a Netgear, so the host name is Netgear, therefore my router IP is 192.168.0.1). So click your router IP on the right, and press OK.
Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 12:
Now your window should look similar to this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 13:
Now, here is where we "bridge the connections." Above between the sniffer button(which should always be down) and the blue plus, is the Poision(APR) button, click that:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 14:
Now, you should see the IP's coming in through the lower column, think of that as CommView. Now, for the best results, make sure your connections are full-routing, if your half-routing, you may experience some problems. Your window should be similar to this:
Click the image to open in full size.(Right now you can see one of Bungies IP)

And your connections through your router are bridged. Remember, the lower column where you see bungies IP acts like a CommView.

Over to Zone Alarm

Now that wasnt so bad now was it? Over to Zone Alarm pro, dont worry we're almost done.

Step 1:
Open Zone Alarm (A-Duh)

Step 2:
Just for safe keeping, turn your firewall off (make sure you dont have hackers out to get you at this time).
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 2:
Go to your rules(Zones) tab. First thing we wanna do is set your current network from Trusted to Internet. To do that, right click on "Zone" and select "Edit":
Click the image to open in full size.

Note:If you have a "Loopback Adapter", remove it by right-clicking it

Now, a small window should pop up. All you have to do is change it from "Trusted" to "Internet" and then press "OK"
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 3:
Now it should be on "Internet", and your window should look similar to this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 4:
Now, time to add IPs. First you need to add Bungies IP(65.59.234.161). Now, if you see the same exact IP but with a different ending (IE: 65.59.234.162), add it also to be extra safe. When it doesnt show up in Cain, then you can remove it.
To add IPs, go down to the bottom-right hand corner and click on "Add>>" and select "IP Address...":
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 5:
Now a small window should pop up, here is where you input the IP:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 6:
Just for example, I'm gonna input a random IP. You would do this twice if your bridging. 1)Bungies IP, 2)Your friends IP which your forcing host to. Make sure you have the right IP(s) also.(Check Cain). You can make the description whatever you want:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 7:
Now, make sure the Zones in "Trusted" and then press "OK", your window should now look similar to this:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 8:
Now, make sure you save the changes by either clicking another and and selecting "OK" at this prompt:
Click the image to open in full size.
Or, on the bottom-right and corner press "Apply," If you do this, it sill be saved and you wont see the prompt above:
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 9:
Now click on the "Main" tab towards the top of the ZAP FW.
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 10:
Now, put your Firewall(Internet Zone Security) tab on High and leave your Trusted on Low(OFF). Your friend should be bridged now, hve him talk after doing this to make sure he still has connection to you.

There you go!

-Krafty

Tips & FAQ's:

The part where the IP's show up in Cain are getting pretty full, how do I remove them?

Go down to that section, right click on any IP, and select "Remove All", basically it will refresh the window if its still poisioning.
Click the image to open in full size.

I tried poisioning my connections and I've been getting only "Half-Routing," how do I make it Full rout?

Chances are, the Bungie IP just shifted. Its ok, it does that sometimes. Simply, go to your APR window(the picture above), click on the IP thats in the UPPER column, right click it and select "Remove All":
Click the image to open in full size.
Now, go to the bottom, and select the "Host" tab. Right click on any of the IP's, and select "Remove All":
Click the image to open in full size.

Now, go back to the beginning of the tutorial ("Starting with Cain & Abel"), and repeat steps 3 through 6. The Bungie IP may be different after it re-scans, if so, just follow along with the rest of the tutorial/procedure.

What happens if I add my own IP?
Nothing....

What if I cant hear anyone but my friend in the game?
Mostly has to do with your connection. Its nothing too big, just after the game starts turn your firewall down to Med. or Low. Make sure you turn it back up when you start a new game.

Can you still bridge in Halo 2? I thought that you couldn't briding/standbying/modding in MM anymore.

if your on vista you need to "run as" administrator or owner. if your on xp you need to have admin permissions to run cain. (right click>run as>admin or owner account name).
