| [TUT] Sound Modding -by DarkMetal Requirements: • Halo 2 Sound Tools (Halo2ST by TfAv1228, included) • Windows Movie Maker, Acoustica Mixcraft, or some sort of recording/sound editing software. First off, I would like to say that I wrote this tutorial to explain to a few people how to create custom sounds and how to inject them properly... because noone seems to be using them in their mods anymore. 1. Sound Extraction: • Starting with Halo2ST, open a map. You will be greeted by all of the sounds that are referenced in the map. Some of these are external, but you have the option to internalize them with the handy-dandy internalize button. • Select a nice, long sound file. In this case, a sound that is within every map, I am going to go with sound\ui\main_menu_music\menu_music\loop. Select this sound, click the internalize button, and you will be prompted for your Main Menu map. Select it, and your sound will be internalized. 2. Sound Extracting & Editing: • Now that the sound is internalized, extract the sound to a remote, safe location (ex: My "Documents\My Halo Sounds") so that we can edit it. Now I am going to explain how to find the exact maximum length for your sounds using Windows Movie Maker. • Open WMM (Movie Maker), and in Movie Tasks, click "Import audio or sound". Browse to your sound(s) and import it/them. When WMM loads, drag all of your sounds onto the time track and make sure they are all side-by-side. With this done, you should now hit Ctrl+P and save the sound file. When it is finished, you will be able to see how long your clip can be. In this case, with the main menu loop, 5 minuites and 17 seconds. • Now you can create your sound. 3. Cut, Copy Paste: • This is the bulky part of the tutorial. Depending on how many clips your sound consists of, you will have to cut it into a few pieces. With the main menu, we have 4 clips. • Now we need to get the length of each clip. The Main Menu's length's are as follows: >> 0-0: 56 seconds >> 0-1: 35 seconds >> 0-2: 1 minuite and 15 seconds >> 0-3: 2 minuites and 29 seconds • Place your sound into a new WMM Project and cut it in a corosponding manor, start with 56 seconds and ending with 2 minuites and 29 seconds if you're using the Main Menu looping sound. After you have each of your clips cut and precise (meaning it CANNOT be longer than the corosponding clips!), save each clip over the old Main Menu clips that you saved earlier. • Now with your clips done, go back into Halo2ST, open your mainmenu.map, browse to the Main Menu loop sound, and click inject. It will give an option of which clip to inject over, so inject each of the clips you just saved, and your sound is now totally halo-2-ized. NOTE: YOU MUST EXTRACT THE ENTITY TAGS TO C:\entity\ FOR IT TO WORK PROPERLY!! *Update* Sounds for Weapons: • For editing sounds, you must follow the same steps as above, but browse to a sound for a weapon. When looking for the weapon's sound, you're going to want to look for a sound that ends with fire. This indicates the sound that is played when you shoot the weapon. • In this scenario, I am going to use the magnum's fire sound, sound\weapons\magnum\magnum_fire. Click the sound, and internalize it. When you click the internalize button, you will be prompted to open your Shared map. After opening it, Halo2ST will internalize the weapon's fire sound for you. • Extract the sound and open up Windows Movie Maker. This will help us find out how long our sound can be, and this is where we will edit your new sound to be injected into halo. In the case of the magnum's fire sound, we have 1 second and 47 milliseconds. Follow the Cut, Copy, Paste step in order to edit your cound accordingly. • Now you have an edited weapon sound. Go back into Halo2ST, open your Shared map, and browse to sound\weapons\magnum\magnum_fire. Inject your edited sound, and now your magnum will have the sound that you injected for every map.
