Lets begin…

STEP 1

The modding folder…
Open Windows Explorer and browse to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo" (default location) or wherever you saved Halo when you installed it on your computer.

Click on “File”, then “New”, then “Folder”. Label the new folder what ever you what, it will hold you backup maps and mod tools so I would call it “backup maps, mods”. I will refer to this folder and its location as “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\backup maps, mods” in the future but it is really wherever Halo was installed and whatever you named it the folder.

STEP 2 (if you already have backup maps skip to STEP 3)

Must make backup maps…
Click “Back” and double click on “MAPS” folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\MAPS). Highlight everything there(all the maps). Click on “Edit” and click on “Copy”. Click “Back” and double click on your folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\backup maps, mods). Click “Edit” then click “Paste”.

You are now making a copy of all your Halo maps, this may take a few minutes but is VERY IMPORTANT. Once it is done give yourself a pat on the back, you haven’t done much of anything….just kidding.

STEP 3(if you already have HMT v3.5 skip to STEP 4)

Now to get the modding tools…
First, your going to need HMT v3.5 (Halo Mapping Tools) so download it here: http://www.mpcdownloads.com/forums/d...o=file&id=1653
Check the box next to “I have read and understand the Disclamer” and click “Download Here”
Click “Save” when the window appears. Browse to the folder you just made. Browse to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\backup maps, mods”
Once you’ve browsed to the right folder, click “Save” and let it download.

In addition to that you’ll need the .net framework to run it so download that right here:
http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.med...splaylang%3Den
Save this wherever you want, I don’t care, most simply, save it in the same folder.

STEP 4(if you know how to open HMT skip to STEP 5)

Now that you’ve got some modding tools, and you backed up the maps you will mod, lets get to work…

Open Windows Explorer and browse to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\backup maps, mods". The program you downloaded should be here if you followed my instructions. It is called “HMT.v3.5.Release.rar”. Double click on it. Another window should open. Double click on “HMT.v3.5”. Double click on “HaloMapTools.exe”. Now your modding tools are opening (HMT).

STEP 5

Open up the map…
Click “Open Map File” at the bottom left hand side of HMT.
Browse to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\MAPS”. NOT YOUR BACKUP MAPS!
You can mod this on any map but lets use Blood Gulch. No exceptions here, it makes a difference, USE BLOOD GULCH or don’t complain if things aren’t the same….anyway double click on “bloodgulch.map”.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If at any time from here on a message appears in HMT just click “OK” or “CONTINUE” and go on with what the tutorial says to do, if that doesn’t work, quit or exit(same thing) and open HMT again and continue.

A whole list of things with + boxes next to them appear.
About 5th from the top of the list is “[bitm] Bitmap”. Find it and click on the + next to it.
Now a whole list of things open within it. Scroll down until you find one called “levels\a10\bitmaps\cryo glass”.
Click on it and look at the top, the “Tag Transformation” tab just opened.
There is a word “Meta”, next to it is a button “Swap”, and next to that is a box that has 6 characters in it: “CA161C”.
Highlight them and right click and select “Copy”.
Now scroll down until you find “vehicles\banshee\bitmaps\banshee”.
Click on it and find that little box at the top again. Highlight “B50624” in this box, right click, and select “Paste”.
Now next to the box is a button that says “Revert” and next to that is a button that says “Save”, click “Save”.
You have replaced the banshee body with cryo glass which is invisible. Therefore your banshee is invisible. Get the idea, but don’t quit now if your just got put out, this will be awesome (especially for video and screen shots when your done).
Right below “vehicles\banshee\bitmaps\banshee” (in the same section, “[bitm] Bitmap”) there is “vehicles\banshee\bitmaps\banshee contrail”, click on this and do the same thing (find that little box at the top again. Highlight “B5B46C” in this box, right click, and select “Paste”).
Click “Save”. Now the little trail in the air that the banshee makes is not visible.

Now, make sure the Halo Game is closed if it happens to be open because it will mess this part up…
In HMT scroll down until you find “[ligh] Light”.
Click on the + next to it.
Find “scenery\small beacon\small red beacon”.
Click on it and find the box at the top again with “91A888” in the box.
Highlight what’s in the box, right click and select “Copy”.
Scroll down and find “vehicles\banshee\banshee wing” (the lights on the wings of the banshee).
Click on this and highlight “B5BA00” in that box at the top.
Right click and select “Paste”. Click “Save”.
Scroll down until you find “[snd!] Sound” and click on the + next to it.
Scroll down and look for “sound\sfx\impulse\footsteps\cyborg\wood\jump_up” and click on it. I use this just because it is quiet but you can use any sound you want in the future.
Find the box at the top and highlight “AC3D90”.
Right click and select “Copy”.
Now scroll down and find “sound\sfx\vehicles\banshee_engine” and click on it.
Find the box at the top, highlight “B5B63C”, right click and select “Paste”. Click “Save”.

OK YOUR ALMOST DONE!

Scroll down to “[vehi] Vehicle” and click on the +.
Click on “vehicles\banshee\banshee_mp”.
On the right side of the program stuff appears.
There is a dropdown box next to the word “Seat”.
Click on the arrow and click on “0”.
Check off the box that has a check in it next to “Fires Weapon” (so there is no check) and click “Save”.
Now scroll down to [whip] Weapon Hud Interface, and click on the + next to it.
Find “vehicles\banshee\banshee gun” and click on it.
To the left of the box at the top that has “B5CD14” in it is a button labeld “Swap” and click on it.
In the little scroll box that appears find and click on “ui\hud\empty”. Click “Save”.
Now click “Close Map File” and everything should disappear.

Hurray NOW your finally done.
Open up Halo and create an internet game, choose the map Blood Gulch and make sure the game as banshees in it.
When the game starts go to where the banshee should be, instead you should see 4 floating red lights. This marks your ride.
Get in and start flyin around, the lights will go off when you get in.

How To Get Rid Of The Mods
If you want to get rid of the mods, open Windows Explorer and browse to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\backup maps, mods" (default location) or wherever you saved Halo when you installed it on your computer and the folder you made. Open that folder and highlight the map that you modded. Right click and copy the map, in this case Blood Gulch. Go to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\MAPS" and paste the map in this folder. It should replace the modded map.
If you have any questions or corrections please just right a comment and if I can do anything I will try.
