THIS METHOD OF MODDING GRAND THEFT AUTO IV ON XBOX360 HAS BEEN PATCHED FOR XBOX LIVE... THID FINISHED DISC AFTER MODDING WILL FREEZE DURING FIRST LOADING SCREEN...

ALL CREDIT for this tutorial goes to "JerzeyLegend" from xbox360iso

As you may have seen in the Xbox 360 Downloads section, there is quite an extensive thread on modding GTA IV via ISO mods. Many are having trouble, so I am going to do a FULL tutorial with a picture for every step.

What you need:

Fresh GTA IV ISO (use search)
GTA IV Mod Tools (HERE)
DVD+RW DL Burner
Flashed Xbox 360 (try to keep it up to date)

DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your Xbox 360. Nor does www.xbox360iso.com. Perform at your own risk.

1.) If you have everything above, you should have these two items on your desktop.

Click the image to open in full size.

2.) Lets open GTA IV Mod Tools.

Click the image to open in full size.

3.) Open Xbox Backup Creator.

Click the image to open in full size.

4.) Select Xbox Backup Creator.exe

Click the image to open in full size.

5.) This is XBC open.

Click the image to open in full size.

5.) Select the 'Image Tools' tab.

Click the image to open in full size.

6.) Select 'Image Browser'. This is what you should get.

Click the image to open in full size.

7.) Select 'File' then 'Open Image File'.

Click the image to open in full size.

8.) Browse for the GTA IV Folder on your desktop (or wherever you put it).

Click the image to open in full size.

9.) Open the folder, and select GTA IV.iso (or whatever it's named)[Credit to Zarth for the ISO]

Click the image to open in full size.

10.) The 'Image Browser' will now show you the contents of the ISO.

Click the image to open in full size.

11.) Select the common.rpf file.

Click the image to open in full size.
12.) Right Click on the common.rpf file, and then select extract. Make a new folder, call if it Common Backup, and extract a 2nd copy there. Just in case.

Click the image to open in full size.

13.) Choose a location. I chose my desktop.

Click the image to open in full size.

14.) This is what you should get.

Click the image to open in full size.

15.) Lets go back to the GTA IV Mod Tools folder. Open the folder Open IV.

Click the image to open in full size.

16.) Select OpenIV.exe

Click the image to open in full size.

17.) This tut is for first timers, and people who already tried, but I will show what it looks like for the first time. If Open IV gives any errors, try using the 'ClearConfig.cmd' file. It will clear the configuration, and you will get the following screens, these screens also appear if you use Open IV for the first time.

Click the image to open in full size.

18.) Select your language, for me it's English. Press Next after your selection.

Click the image to open in full size.

19.) Agree to Terms and Conditions. When you click anything, the T&C will automatically pop up. Just close it. (I forgot to get a screen cap of it).

Click the image to open in full size.

20.) I simply skip this by select 'Next'.

Click the image to open in full size.

21.) This will ask for the location of the GTA IV.exe which is the PC version of GTA IV. There is a .exe in the GTA IV Mod Tools Folder, under Open IV. Press 'Select' and browse your PC for it. Mine was on the desktop. Simply select 'GTA IV Mod Tools', then expand the tree, then select 'Open IV', then select 'OK'.

Click the image to open in full size.

22.) This should be the result before you continue.

Click the image to open in full size.

23.) On the next screen select 'Start'.

Click the image to open in full size.

24.) This is what Open IV looks like before you open the Common.rpf.

Click the image to open in full size.

25.) Select the 'Open' folder, and browse for the 'common.rpf' file on your desktop (or wherever you placed it).

Click the image to open in full size.

26.) Answer 'Yes' to the prompt.

Click the image to open in full size.

27.) You should get the following screen. Double click the 'Data' folder.

Click the image to open in full size.

28.) It should give you the following result. (note: I scrolled to the bottom)

Click the image to open in full size.

29.) THIS is for modding weapons, I will expand any other aspects with add-ons to this tutorial upon request. Select and Extract the 3 highlighted items in this picture. (meleeanims.dat; thrownweaponinfo.xml; weaponinfo.xml) Put them on your desktop.

Click the image to open in full size.

30.) You can extract all 3 individually if you are unsure. Simply right click each of the three files, and select 'Extract', however you can just drag and drop if you wish. The picture shows what the right click menu looks like, and then you can select 'Extract'.

Click the image to open in full size.

31.) Select your destination (if you right clicked and extracted). I chose the desktop.

Click the image to open in full size.

32.) You should have these three files.

Click the image to open in full size.

33.) Let's go back to the GTA IV Mod Tools folder once again, and select Needle.

Click the image to open in full size.

34.) Select IV Needle.exe.

Click the image to open in full size.

35.) This is what Needle should open up to. If it does not, right click on the logo.

Click the image to open in full size.

36.) Select 'Weapon Editor'.

Click the image to open in full size.

37.) It should open up to this:

Click the image to open in full size.

38.) Now select 'Load', then browse for the 'weaponinfo.xml' file

Click the image to open in full size.

39.) This should be the first screen you see.

Click the image to open in full size.

40.) I selected the Deagle as my first gun to mod. Just select Deagle from the drop down menu.

Click the image to open in full size.

***NOTE*** I am going to make it shoot Rockets. The deagle has a nice pace, good aiming, and it sounds better than the pistol. Plus it's the one you always get when you use the Health and Armor cheat. You can choose any gun you like to shoot rockets. Perhaps a Rocket Sniper Rifle?

41.) Select the fire type. Instant Hit is usually what all the guns are, except Sniper Rifle.

Click the image to open in full size.

43.) Change INSTANT_HIT to PROJECTILE (be sure to spell it right).

Click the image to open in full size.

44.) Now notice DAMAGE TYPE? It's bullet right now, well because guns shoot bullets.

Click the image to open in full size.

45.) Let's change BULLET to EXPLOSIVE (be sure to spell correctly).

Click the image to open in full size.

46.) Go to the 'PROJECTILE' tab.

Click the image to open in full size.

47.) In the blank field "TYPE TO CREATE" put 'ROCKET'. That's it, your deagle now shoots ROCKETS.

Click the image to open in full size.

48.) Lets make a force gun now. Using the MP5. Select it from the drop down menu.

Click the image to open in full size.

49.) At the 'PHYSICS' tab, enter a high number under 'FORCE'. The higher you go, the harder bullets will hit. They will not damage more, but simply have a higher velocity behind them, which causes stuff to fly away, or flip and stuff like that. Set the value to a negative (ex: -500), and stuff you shoot will come to you. Be careful, don't want to shoot a bus, and it runs over you. I used 500000, one bullet will cause a car to fly away.

Click the image to open in full size.

50.) This last part of my tutorial will make the miniguns on the helicopter shoot fast like a real minigun. Select Minigun and then go to the 'Data' tab, then change the 'Time Between Shots' to 0.

Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.

51.) Choose Save. There was an asterisk at the Title Bar, once saved it should be gone. See the difference, look in the windows title bar.

Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.

53.) Close IV Needle. Reopen or Maximze (whichever you did) Open IV.

Click the image to open in full size.

54.) Right click on the three files (one at a time)[Meleeanims.dat; thrownweaponinfo.xml; weaponinfo.xml] and select replace. It will ask you which file to replace with, browse for the three files. Make sure to replace each one with it's respective file. Don't replace 'meleeanims.dat' with 'thrownweaponinfo.xml'.

Click the image to open in full size.

OK. I AM MAKING A CHANGE IN MY TUT RIGHT HERE. BEFORE REBUILDING, PRESS THE BACK ARROW UNTIL YOU COME TO THE THREE FOLDERS AGAIN. GO INTO THE TEXT FOLDER.

Click the image to open in full size.

DELETE ALL OF THE LANGUAGES EXCEPT AMERICAN.TXT. NOW YOU MAY PROCEED.

Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

55.) Once you delete the .txt files. Go to 'File' and Rebuild.

Click the image to open in full size.

56.) Answer 'Yes' to the prompt.

Click the image to open in full size.

57.) You should see this screen working.

Click the image to open in full size.

58.) Go back to Xbox Backup Creator, select Image Tools, then select Image Browser. Look earlier in this tutorial if you forgot where to go.

Click the image to open in full size.

59.) Select the 'common.rpf' file, and choose 'Replace'.

Click the image to open in full size.

60.) Browse for the common.rpf file that you extracted earlier.

Click the image to open in full size.

61.) IF THIS WARNING APPEARS, that means your common file is to LARGE from modifications. SELECT CANCEL, DO NOT SELECT OK!!!!! It will corrupt your ISO. If it does NOT say that, and it just replaces the file, then you are ok.

Click the image to open in full size.

62.) You should be here if you successfully deleted the language files in the common.rpf file. Open Xbox Backup Creator once more. Select Image Tools, and Image Browser once again. Replace the common.rpf file with the modded one. If it fits, then it should give no warning, if it is too small, Image Browser will pad the file, which is basically making it larger to where it should be.

Click the image to open in full size.

63.) After replacing the common file. Simply close image browser, and burn to disc with which ever program you use. I suggest Xbox Backup Creators burning tools because it's lightwieght but effective. I usually burn with CloneCD but it's a resource hog, and I have to put my PC use on hold when it's burning. BURN AT THE SLOWEST SPEED POSSIBLE!

64.) Put it in your Xbox 360, and ENJOY!

I hope this tutorial helped you mod your GTA IV ISO. IF not please feel free to ask questions. If even after you delete the languages you can put the common.rpf file back in, it means you modded the file to heavy. Messing with car groups, and adding too many color schemes to cars will cause that. I will do add-on tuts on changing car colors at another time. I will also do a tut on game save editing with a GUI tool.

This is my first tutorial on here. Please give Karma if this helped you or someone you know. Thanks. Please use responsibly we don't want this getting patched.

and say if i want my sniper rifle to be able to shoot molotovs rather than bullets when i shoot someone wouldn't i put PROJECTILE in the fire type slot and FIRE in the damage type slot..
then under projectile in type to create i would put MOLOTOV

its all sounds right to me when i look at how you set the deagle to shoot rockets.

Ok. Sorry. I have to add this bit to the tutorial. For Molotovs or Grenades, you want to make the slots almost match.

Yes, you are correct.

For Molotovs, you want to put FIRE TYPE: PROJECTILE - DAMAGE TYPE: FIRE
Then under the Projectile tab, TYPE TO CREATE: MOLOTOV

For Grenades: FIRE TYPE: PROJECTILE - DAMAGE TYPE: EXPLOSIVE - TYPE TO CREATE: GRENADE

Now for Sniper Rifles, you want to shoot farther targets, increase the Target Range, and Weapon Range data slots under the DATA tab. The higher the number, the farther it will go. Target Range is obvious. Weapon Range, I believe is how far the bullet will travel, however, I don't know what that will do to explosives. It may increase the damage radius. I hope that helped, let me know if it works for you.
