Earn Achievements in Gears of War to Unlock Playable Characters in GoW2

Epic revealed at the currently ongoing San Diego Comicon that fans who played the original Gears of War and earned various achievements will get bonuses as playable characters in Gears of War 2, a feature they are calling "linked achievements." So far the only confirmed characters and their corresponding achievements are as follows:
  • Complete Act One, unlock Anthony Carmine
  • Find 10 COG tags, unlock Minh Young Kim
  • Kill Raam, unlock Raam

They didn't say specifically, but it is safe to assume these are just online character models. Is it a coincidence that all these people are dead? Is this the "return" of Carmine that Epic has been hinting at, or is it still possible that he will be resurrected and available during the actual campaign? I'm hoping the new spirutual character will bring resurrect him and we won't be seeing a Kerrigan situation like in Starcraft.

Update: Apparently not everyone has played Starcraft, which is a huge sin, but for those who don't know, Kerrigan was a Terran (human) hero who was killed and later resurrected by the Zerg (not exactly like Locust, but similar) and then fought as one of their heroes in the expansion.

That's pretty sick, good thing I've done all those things. Then again, they aren't hard to complete either.
