I recently purchased
Rosewill Sata + Ultra ATA RAID CONTROLLER
Newegg.com - Rosewill RC-212 PCI SATA / IDE Controller Card SATA 150 + ATA 133 : Supports Raid 0, 1, 0+1, JBOD, un-RAID mode - Retail

installed it, drivers all that.

I am just having trouble locating the port number so I can flash my benq!! where exactly you find the exact port number to flash. :cry2:

I look in my devices and I dont see any number or anything.

Can someone exactly explain where can you locate SATA PORT numbers ? thanks

right-click my computer -> left click properties -> click hardware tab -> click device manager -> pull out IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers -> find the VIA card and write down the last 4 at the end of that line.

Hmm thats the thing...
Click the image to open in full size.

My Sata PCI port shows up where the storage controllers are located...

The only controllers showing up in the IDE/ATA/ATAPI tab are the controllers on my mobo...

does anyone know what to do??

Looks like vista. You could try connecting a sata drive up to the via card and powering your computer on as it may not show up in the usual spot unless you have a drive attached.

It appears that those other drives are attached to your jmicron (ICH9) controller so that most likely won't work for you. It that works let venomous know and he can edit the main post to say make sure you have a drive attached to get the sata port locations.

Also could be a vista thing. You may want to obtain an XP gui PE bootable disc and try booting to that and see what happens.

Its not a Vista thing, I already talked to him on AIM earlier and we found the port number, FYI people, the port number of the first port of the first I/O range

When you see Port I/O there should be a long number *8 or so digits* the last 4 number/letters is the port number

Go to Run and type msinfo and expand to find the Sata card by going
Components > Storage > SCSI

Ex. I/O Port - 0x0000EF80-0x0000EF8F

If you saw that as your first port I/O range, your first port number would be EF80

Bah he just told me he couldnt find the port number, 2morrow Im gonna get on my desktop and show him the other way to find it, but its a xp desktop, and he is on Vista...

Thanks for the write up. I am about to gives this a try but I am also running vista on my sata machine. If I had a sata card I put together a old machine and load xp on it but I do not and the local micro center is a million miles away.

I am going to try and see if I can figure out how to get this to work with a sata onboard setup and vista. I will check for the port numbers in my bios first and if not there I would seem to think there would have to be a tool out there to allow you to locate the ports from vista.

The ports are found in the device manager......

And your onboard Sata card prolly wont work, needs to be a VIA VT6421 sata card

Do you if there is a reason why the onboard sata will not work? Is it only because you can not find the port? I have read it works with other firmware hacks for 360's

I found that you need to have a VIA or Nforce chipset to be able to read the BENQ drive. So check your motherboards chipset before buying the sata card. Below is a more detailed write up and explains some more things to Noobs like myself.

You can also mod the BENQ drive so it can be read on other chipsets. I would not recommend it though.

VIA VT6421 is the best, because all drives respond to it, and its only like, 10-15 shipped....not too big of an investment when you consider your games are ALOT cheaper

HELP!

I am having the problem at the dosflash part. Whether manual or via xp i cannot read the drive. I have the 6124 chipset, i followed the directions to a T???
In manual mode it constantly comes up with the parameters every time i hit enter.
In xp it does ask me if i wanna resend the mtk .. and it defaulted to the pic below (ECD0).. can i change this? i answer yes. Turned it off for more than 15 sec. The dosflash dialog window never poped up and i did notice that the dvd ramped up for about 30 sec. then stopped.

Please look at the pics.
Cap1.jpg
Cap2.jpg

When i select to read the flash it errors telling me that there "is no know flash chip on this port"

Is there a chat or something that i can comm with??

Also when dosflash loads it
