You need a probe to extract the lite-on. Only other way around it is if you solder two points on the board to bridge it and then it will work.

Doesn't matter what OS you use, you still need it.

You don't need to boot to DOS with this tutorial. Dosflash has a gui you can use.

Depending on your OS bit, you can either use the Dosflash32 or Dosflash64.

If you get the updated firmware from xbins, then yes, this is for the latest software/firmware. And Dosflash 1.8 and JF 1.66 that I have in the requirements section are the most up to date versions.

GL with your hitachi. Let us know how it goes.

Hitachi's have to be put into Mode-b before the computer can recognize them.

This tutorial does not show how to set mode-b. Here is one that does.

You are going to have to use JungleFlasher I believe. There are many tutorials on our site about it so you shouldn't have a hard time finding a decent one.

Re: How to Firmware Mod your Xbox 360 using Windows 7 64-bit

Hello, thanks for taking the time to write up your excellent tutorial. I'm a Hitachi 79 owner with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and stumbled upon your guide after searching for a way to not have to dual boot with x86 for JungleFlasher.

I decided to take the plunge and attempt your guide with the hitachi and have hit a brick wall. First, Win7 didnt recognize the drive, although BIOS did. So I used Slax to put the drive into ModeB, and returned to windows and it was detected. At this point I started your guide again, and when getting to Read Flash (To dump my orig.bin) it basically says there's nothing to flash (although the program detects the drive).

In the post above you said that Hitachi users might have to use JungleFlasher - is this possible in x64 without portio32? Or should I do as another user on these boards has done:
"I managed to successfully put the portio32.sys file on a vista x64 by simply copying the file into the drivers folder under windows/system32/drivers. Then running the app"

Thanks a lot for your advice, trying to do as much research as possible before asking questions.

Re: How to Firmware Mod your Xbox 360 using Windows 7 64-bit

Right now we are working on getting a tutorial for hitachi, so you might want to wait for that.

Though, when you loaded up DosFlash, you said the program detected it? Or did it ask to run the MTK Vendor? If it asks that, say no to that and try to find the drive manually and then read the flash.

Let me know if that works/helps.

Re: How to Firmware Mod your Xbox 360 using Windows 7 64-bit

Thanks I'll give that a spin tonight and let you know - also glad to hear you're working on a hitachi tutorial, I know I appreciate it - this process is fairly daunting for a first timer, even though I've hacked my wii, ps2, and psp without a problem in the past. Sounds like jungleflasher is the easier method, too bad it doesn't work with x64 seamlessly yet.

Also, the MTKvendor msg that you requested a screenshot of from a Hitachi user is basically identical to the Samsung you have posted.

Re: How to Firmware Mod your Xbox 360 using Windows 7 64-bit

Also, I have no idea if this is related to what I've done on the PC through this process, but my ethernet has suddenly decided to stop working. Windows7 pushed through an update during the reboot process, so I'm pointing the finger at a bad update to the driver, but have you heard of any complications with ethernet when in Test Mode? Thanks.

No, never have heard anything and can't think of any reason why its like that. Just go into device manager and roll back the driver.

Re: How to Firmware Mod your Xbox 360 using Windows 7 64-bit

Bizarre,Windows7 did indeed bork my driver with its recent update. Rollback fixed the problem, thanks for the suggestion, was thinking more complicated than I should've been (and have become entirely too trusting of Win7's goodness to expect a problem).

Anyways, here is a screenshot of what happens after clicking No and finding the port manually ( it is identical in ModeB or not. When not in ModeB, though Win7 does not recognize the drive, the BIOS and DosFlash do. )

Click the image to open in full size.

Did you try changing the port in the drop down menu at top?

Yes the port in the screenshot is the only one that identifies the drive at the bottom under Device Properties.

See if you can read the drive by using Jungleflasher (just read). Let me know how that goes.
