How to play CoD4.

I was a little bored and didn't find a decent how to play guide, so I made one. I will eventually make some edits to this...

Rank/Prestiege/Level:
Levels mean next to nothing, the only thing it shows is how much in-game xp you have. I have beat Lvl 55 Prestiege 10s before I even went into 1st prestiege. Either you know how to play, or you don't. I have a friend who is a Lvl 55 Prestiege 2 (Has stayed there for awhile.), has around a .7 k/d and 8% Accuracy and has got there nearly on match bonuses alone.

Starting up CoD4:
The first thing I recommend is to change your button layout to N0M4D. This will save your finger the pain of holding down the left trigger all of the time and keep you from accidently knifing when trying to turn quickly during intense matches. If your new to CoD4, which I doubt if your on a forum for CoD4, than it is a good idea to go through the entire campaign at least once before playing online. CoD4 has a much faster pace than most other FPSs that I have played and the campaign is a great way to get used to it. (If you want an idea about how the online play is going to be, try playing on Hardened.)

Your first online match:
I recommend using the very first class, the one with the M16 (Assault). The burst fire will save you from much of the recoil of automatic weaponry and also has the capability to kill in trigger pull. If that doesn't quite suit your tastes than you can try the MP5 class (The second class down, Spec Ops).

Dos & Don'ts:
Do NOT forget to use that left trigger to shoulder your weapon, this is the biggest and most common mistake I see in new players.
On a similar note, don't walk around holding down the left trigger, this is the second most common mistake I see in new players.

How to play your first match:
Search in Mercenary Team Deathmatch. When the game starts, choose one of the classes I talked about earlier. When you spawn, stay close to your teammates who isn't a sniper, but not so close that one grenade could take you both out. Use that sprint (Left Thumbstick Down) to get you around quickly. If you come to a corner, check out farther to make sure there are no enemies, then check around the corner. (Watch out for claymores)
If you see an enemy, quickly get them approximatly centered on your screen, then squeeze the left trigger, line up your targer abit better, then pull the right trigger to fire. Keep tapping the right trigger for the M16, hold for the MP5 while slowly looking down to keep your target centered. Keep in mind that all of this needs to take place in less than a second, aside from the shooting.
Also watch that radar, whenever an enemy fires a shot, a red dot appears at that location. Also keep in mind that that also applies to you, you will appear on the enemies radar when you shoot.

Making classes:
When you become level 4, you can create classes.
I suggest that the first class you make looks like this;

AK47 (Good damage with a decent rate of fire and bullet penetration.)
USP w/ Silencer (Decent clip size, and keeps you off of the radar.)
Stun Grenade (If you use a flashbang, you will undoubtibly blind yourself.)
RPG-7 x2 (Although inaccurate, a good backup.)
Stopping Power (You need to make all of your bullets worth something.)
Steady Aim (Great for close quarters.)

After you get to level 5 and get 25 kills with the AK47, you can come back and add a red dot scope onto the AK47. At 75 kills with the AK47 you can come back and add a silencer to the AK47, which I highly recommend. The silencer reduces recoil, muzzle flash, and keeps you off of the enemies radar.
After you get to level 10 and are a bit more experienced at the game, than I suggest creating the two classes I have further down this post.

Match Types:
After you get used to the game, I suggest playing sabotage. You still get 10 points per kill, 20 minuite limit, and there is no kill limit, so you can get as many kills as you want, granted that no one plants it, but that isn't a problem if you just kill the bomb carrier.

Challenges:
Challenges are one of the quickest ways to level up. Once you get the ACOG for a gun, it is a good idea to switch weapons and start on completing another weapon.

Prestiege:
Although this is not necessary, you can show off how much you have done by getting rid of all of your completed challenges and your level to get a new symbol and start all over again, up to 9 times.

How I play:
Between me and my friend, we are the team. He usially runs in and takes them out, while I play more conservitivly and take out the stragglers/escapees. He usially gets 20 - 30 kills on average with 15 - 30 deaths, and I get 15 - 25 kills with 5 - 10 deaths. If we are both sniping, between the both of us, we have just about the whole map covered because we know eachother's field of vision. We end up getting around 15 - 25 kills and 0 - 5 deaths each. All of this depends on what challenges we are going for and how good/bad our team is. He has a 1.71 k/d and mine is 2.6, both of which are still rising, although abit slowly now... I have around 52k kills, and he has around 46k.

My Classes:
I'll put the two main classes I allways have. My other three classes are usially for getting challenges.

Primary:
Red Tiger M4 Carbine w/ ACOG
M9 w/ Silencer (Largest magazine and keeps you off of the radar)
Smoke (Use for arming/disarming and cover)
Bandolier (I allways run out of ammo w/o Bandolier)
Stopping Power (The M4 doesn't do enough damage w/o Stopping Power)
Steady Aim (The ACOG is difficult to use in close quarters)

Sniper:
Red Tiger R700 (for more damage or M40A3 for quicker scoping)
M9 w/ Silencer (Largest magazine and keeps you off of the radar)
Smoke (Use for arming/disarming and cover)
Bandolier (I allways run out of ammo w/o Bandolier)
Stopping Power (For easier 1 shot kills and people with juggernaut)
Deep Impact (For people behind cover)

Well, that's it for now, feel free to make suggestions/comments.

Re: How to play CoD4.

The M4 does plenty of damage if you know how to aim properly, and the R700 has the same hit multipliers as the .50 cal, only it's not semi-auto. It also move MUCH more than the other snipers when sighted, which makes shots while not holding your breath near impossible to make.

The inclusion of the red tiger camouflage is also unnecessary and only serves to make you look like an elitist.

My accuracy is 25%+ and that is after going down from finishing off the SMGs. If you look at the M4 damage, it is the lowest in the game, aside from the SAW. The .50 Cal has horrible accuracy, you can be right on them, and it will miss. Even though there is no reason to not hold your breath while sniping, on the rare occasion that I do, I can hit them just fine with the R700. I use Red Tiger because I earned it. I worked for those headshots. Most of the time people don't even see my Red Tiger because of the ACOG/Sniper scope, so what does it matter?
