ZAAS - Zone Alarm Auto Standby

What is ZAAS - Zone Alarm Auto Standby ...
ZAAS is a way to automate the function of setting the Zone Alarm Firewall (Internet Zone Security, Slider Control Bar) from one postion to another and back again. This method is known as Auto Standby, hence the automation of enabling/disabling the firewall of Zone Alarm.

Why not use other programs ...
You can if ya want, this is my attempt at this type of program.

ZAAS Installation:
Double click on the setup.exe and follow the instructions.
That’s it, you’re done with installation.

ZAAS Uninstall:
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and select ZAAS.

Using ZAAS ...
Click on the ZAAS icon in the location as to where your installed it.
Usually ... Start Button/All Programs/ZAAS - Zone Alarm Auto Standby/ZAAS

Main Screen of ZAAS:

Click the image to open in full size.

Setting Up/Down Times:
Specify the times (in seconds) how long to leave the IZS/SCB (Internet Zone Security, Slider Control Bar) in one position before switching it to another position.

The default values are 2 for Up and 3 for Down. You will need to try different settings to find the "sweet spot", why, because your internet connection will vary from others. So what works for one person may not work for another. So try different settings until you find your "sweet spot".

For example, the settings that work best for me (my internet connection) is 1.8 for Up and 3.2 for Down.

OK, what is the "sweet spot" ... this is the setting that will keep your opponents walking into walls, etc. without having the "blue screen" come up.

Start Standby:
Make sure you have ZA (Zone Alarm) up and running and have selected the Firewall section, Main tab and have the IZS/SCB set to medium.

Click the image to open in full size.

This documentation assumes that you have entered your IP Address (if you are standbying by yourself) and your friends IP Addresses (if you are team standbying) in the Zones settings of Zone Alarm. If you do not know how to do this, locate a tutorial on this subject.

Click the Start Button of ZAAS (once your game has started):

Click the image to open in full size.

You should see ZAAS running now:

Click the image to open in full size.

Now switch back to ZA and set focus (click) on the IZS/SCB (Internet Zone Security, Slider Control Bar), there should be a outline around it.

Click the image to open in full size.

Based on your settings in ZAAS, it will send keystrokes to ZA and move the IZS/SCB from one position to another (Medium to High and High to Medium). You are now Standbying the other team.

Stop Standby:
When your game is over, click the Stop button of ZAAS:

Click the image to open in full size.

Additional Questions:
This Q&A is derived from questions sent to me and other tutorials on se7ensins. All credit goes to appropriate parties.

Question:
Can I get suspended for Standbying?
Answer:
If enough people leave bad feedback on you, YES, without question. The 1st time is a one (1) week suspension from matchmaking, the second (2nd) time is a permanent ban.

Question:
What should the IZS/SCB be set on while I’m in the Pregame Lobby or Searching for Games?
Answer:
Medium

Question:
When I click the Start button on ZAAS, ZA doesn't go from Medium to High, it changes pages or does something weird.
Answer:
Be sure that you have ZA set to the Firewall section/Main tab and the IZS/SCB is set to Medium when you click start.

Question:
Why is my connection status in the red?
Answer:
You are supposed to be, but you won't have any lag.

Question:
What is wrong if one of my team mates connection status is in the red?
Answer:
You have specified the wrong IP Address in Zone Alarm. Ask them to go to ipchicken.com and tell you their IP Address.

Question:
Can I lag myself out?
Answer:
If ZA's firewall stays high to long (about 6 or more seconds), you will lag yourself out.

I recommend window hooking, I was going to use it on my newer version but never got around to it. I'd look into it, the program looks really nice btw.

The concept of “straight” windows hooks will not work for this (and other firewalls) and anit-virus software (anything that is well written). They monitor the “hooks” so that a virus, spyware, etc. will not “hook” into them and disable them or change their user settings.

You keep adjusting your up and down times until you find a setting that will
keep your opponents walking into walls, etc. without having the
"blue screen" come up.

One setting is not optimal for all as bandwidth varies from person to person.
This is why you keep adjusting until you find the “sweet spot” for your
system and connectivity.

This is a 2 day (at most) old question that I am just now getting around to answering.

I ask again, smart guy, what are you referring to or trying to insinuate?
