Yep right now im all set.. Got my MSdash, unleashx dash, and XBMC working. I cant wait to get a bigger hard drive. I want to put my music and videos and stuff on it and use that for my media center or whatever, I even got the component monster cables with the optical audio output haha.. This thing is pretty sweet after modding it.

Hmm... I seem to do it just fine. Maybe try reinstalling with Krayzies NDURE installer.

Re: Bypassing Shadow C and Eeprom Backup

I'm in a very similar boat.

I just softmodded (using xboxhd + ndure installer) but something went wrong with the install. UnleashX is fine and dandy, but C is empty (a backup was made and is in E:/backup). I found this thread and followed the instructions.

I got backup copied to the MSDASHBOARD folder, but running the Add msdash functions deal gives the exact same error that JCV had above, the "no minimum install present" bit. When I try to run the xboxdash.xbe from the File Explorer (in either MSDASHBOARD or original backup location) it gives me a service screen. I'm guessing that Add msdash functions thing is important?

Any thoughts?

Re: Bypassing Shadow C and Eeprom Backup

The reason you cant see anything in the C drive is because of the shadow c. Trust me if your C drive was empty then your xbox would not run . But for this installer I cheated a little bit. I used parts of krayzies extras and thats why it looks for the minimal install. Ill fix that soon. Sorry.

Re: Bypassing Shadow C and Eeprom Backup

Ah, I had been wondering what this ShadowC business was about.

For the record though, the NDURE script did throw about about 10 i/o 'cannot create directory' permissions errors when I ran it *shrugs*

I'll kindly wait for an update then, it's not like I need the MSDash for anything anyway. Thanks for the hard work

How should I find about an update when there is one?

Re: Bypassing Shadow C and Eeprom Backup

Hi forrest master I don't want you to feel that I'm attacking you or your dedication for making this thread and support it but I want to comment on what I have comment on sid 4.

the shadow C is coded to protect from simple mistakes So if you are trying to show how to avoid or to remove shadow C

then why use sid 4 to begin with? Also when done properly you can install apps / games / pics / vids / music/ emu/roms etc etc with no issues.....

That being Said Sid 4 was worked on alot by many of us to protect from simple mistakes done from noobs to casual users.

That being said once again users who do this method have no point in going with sid 4 as it was script to protect from simple mistakes.

so those of you who mess up of course first blame your self for getting a xbox error msg like 21 or others etc etc

but after that for trying to leave your xbox un protected by doing methods to remove coded/scripted / protected modes in sid 4' mod.

Ok, this tutorial is relatively simple. All you need is to download my custom made tools. Ok, in this toolpack I have only included the basic stuff you need. In here you can Format your F and G drive if you need to and you can launch the tools. You are going to launch the tools. When it loads it will give you 5 options.
  1. Backup Eeprom
  2. Dashboard Management
  3. Settings
  4. Reboot
  5. Shutdown
First you are going to want to backup your eeprom. Its always handy to have it backed up. So select that and back it up. It will be saved to /E/apps/extras/files/eeprom/backup/. Then hit go back to Tools Menu.

Now that you are back in your tools menu you can now FTP to your box and now see everything in the shadow C.

I recommend going to Dashboard Management and selecting back up current dash. Just incase you mess up.

Now if you want to add your M functions then FTP the original M$ dash to the MSDASHBOARD folder in your extras folder. Then hit Add MSdash functions.

Now feel free to mess around with your C drive. Just be careful if you never made a backup.

Post if you have any questions, or bugs since I did code this myself. I am here to help. You may give thanks too if you want.

Re: Bypassing Shadow C and Eeprom Backup

I made this app for educational purposes. And mainly if they are gonna make a new HDD and need the C partition files. If someone really wants access to the files, which most of the older, outdated tutorials ask for, then they can f up their drive and come to me

But yeah, I just made it because people were asking for it. It only has like 1200 views and most of them end back up asking me for help

Re: Bypassing Shadow C and Eeprom Backup

If they need files from the C drive for ms dash why not get 5960 out on the net? or pick up the the files from the saved location where we scripted the e/backup/ ?

well its a nice program and all, im just saying those users should just use other modding methods if they are intending to remove the shadow c and eeprom...

reason why is because sid4 **might** cause some weird glitches from time to time due to the virtual mounts
