This is why halo 3 modding takes a long time.

I'm afraid Micro$oft has evened the score with the modders. As you may or may not know, It is possible to mod Halo 3, but it is impossible to get the maps to load, as they are in a proprietary live container with a ***** of an encryption and some other security as well. I'm no expert, but here is how i sum it up.
The DLC maps off of halo 3 xbox live have 2 or more sets of encryption. The mapfile itself has to be signed, as well as the container of the mapfile. It is rumoured that someone does have the knowledge of how to resign them, but i highly doubt it.
Another reason why modding is so slow right now is because the 360 runs in an extremely secure environment. There is absolutely no way to softmod the 360 currently. A firmware hack is possible but you need a certain dvd drive. It's also a ***** to install! Modding is not at all popular now on xbox live. Back in the day, modding was like a new fashion trend because it was easy. Even I could softmod my xbox original using a softmod. It was so easy to mod, and Microsoft put a bad encryption on the maps (which was later cracked relatively fast...does Cool Map Resigner bring back any old memories ^_^?)
not to mention that the old xbox live service was extremely easy to fool. By coldbooting, one could slip past the mod-detection mechanism micro$oft had put in place and proceed into the game with modded hard drive contents. The banning system for xbox was lousy as well. From the time you logged on, you had six to eight full hours to wreak havok in matchmaking. If the account was banned, one just borrowed a 2 month and made a new one with ease. Now, we can't even mod in matchmaking for 3 minutes, if at all and as soon as modding is possible, Microsoft will patch it up like they did with Gears Of War. The modding scene looks grim now. We might not see any reall progress for one or two years...maybe more.
That sums it up. If you have anything you want to say, go ahead. I'm antomicblitz and I'm a modder. I used to mod in matchmaking back when it was cool.
