So I bought my first PSP 2 days ago, and find all this stuff very fascinating. However, a clear picture has yet to materialize in my mind how this works. From what I am reading here, there are conflicting views, but my intepretation is as follows:
The psp battery has an EPROM on it, which the PSP reads during boot. The contents of the battery instructs the PSP where to go for loading its firmware. Using this battery, you will always have the option to load firmware from your memory stick in case you royally screw up your PSP ('making it a brick') to the point where it will not boot.

Moving on, this is only true for the fat PSP, and not the slim PSP. Hence; there are no 'backup' plan if u have a slim one (which I do)

Can someone verify this, or correct me?
