Halo 2 Modding FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

HALO 2 MODDING FAQ
~Dem Pyros

When in doubt, SEARCH!!!! This comes in handy all the time, as almost all of the "How-to" questions aren't answered in here.

Q:
Do i have to have Halo 2 on my hard drive in order to mod?
A: Yes and no. For the "new" maps (ones from either map update) yes. For the "old" maps (the ones originally on the Halo 2 disk) you can either have Halo 2 on your hard drive or use a disk. However most users prefer to story their game on the hard drive so that they don't have to burn a new disk whenever they want to change something.

Q: How do i get started?
A: You must first modify your xbox's operating system. This is referred to as "modding" your xbox. Please search the site for tutorials on "softmodding" or "hardmodding". Most users prefer softmodding for ease of use.

Q: Can you mod to auto-win every game?
A: No

Q: Can people on Xbox Live see my map skins?
A: No, and there is no way that they can.

Q: What are ppf, sppf, and serenity?
A: These are types of files that are called "patches". You use them with programs that you can download off of this site in order to use other people's modded maps. Please search the site for tutorials on how to use these programs.

Q: Where do i find my Halo 2 maps on my hard drive?
A: The "new" maps (ones that came with the multiplayer map pack and aren't on your Halo 2 disk) are stored on your xbox's hard drive in E:\TDATA\4d530064.

Q: Can i mod Halo 2 without modding my xbox?
A: No. In order to modify Halo 2 you have to void the warranty on your xbox and install 3rd party software in order to either "softmod" or "hardmod" your xbox.

Q: What happens if I mod Halo 2 on Xbox Live?
A: The account that you are modding on will never be allowed into matchmaking again.

Q: If I mod on Xbox Live how long do I have until they ban me?
A: On average you have about 6 hours.

Q: If I mod on Halo 2 on Xbox Live with one account, will the other ones on my xbox be banned?
A: No, any other accounts on your xbox will not receive any bannings unless you sign into live with your Halo 2 modified.

Q: If i sign into Xbox Live with Halo 2 modified will I be banned only if i go into matchmaking?
A: No, you will be banned within 6 hours of sign in or if you sign out. It doesn't matter if you go into matchmaking or play any other games, the countdown starts the second you sign in.

Q: Can I sign onto Xbox Live with Halo 2 on my hard drive?
A: Yes and No. You can sign onto Xbox Live with the Halo 2 disc files on your hard drive, but are running off of your disc. HOWEVER, if you launch and are running Halo 2 off of your hard drive (AKA you started the game through the "Games" menu in your dashboard) then you will not be able to get onto Xbox Live and you could possibly cause your entire Xbox to be banned from Xbox Live permanently.

alright if you mod old maps and you save it to your box. the way you can access the maps and get on live easily is start up your box put the game in shut down your box and start it with the game in without accessing your softmod this also makes it seem as though your box is "unmodded" when it really is so you go into live and tada you have old modded maps on live. don't you feel special you cheated said system yet again you old modder

I have a question.

How do people mod in custom matches, if they supposedly get banned?

It doesn't matter my IP changes. Its the account that gets banned not the IP.
