Halo 1 Modding (Xbox)

I wanted to know if you can mod Halo 1 on the Xbox. I see that you can do the PC version easily, but can you do it for the Xbox. More specifically, do you use the same software as you do for H2? Also, where in God's name do you get the maps if you can mod it?

i checked most ofd the tut's that hadf to deal with modding and i was unable to find any thing about modding org. halo on xbox. So im not sure if any one has doen it or even tried, but im sure if you were to mod you would have to either 1) have the whole game on your hard drive or 2) have a modded disc.
FYI the sale or request for modded disc's is illegal on this site so dont go around asking you will get yourself banned. Sorry i oculdnt be of more help.

Modding Halo 1 Xbox maps is mostly the same as modding Halo 1 PC maps or H2 Xbox maps. Maps can be pulled off of the disc like with Halo 2. You can use Dot Halo or HMT to, but the catch is Halo 1 Xbox maps have compression.

So basically you need a program to uncompress the H1X map before you can edit it, then when you're done editing, you have to recompress it before you FTP it to your Xbox. If you try to play an uncompressed H1X map you get a dirty disc error message.

The good thing is Dot Halo can handle the compression. HMT has a button for decompressing maps, but if you try it it just says "this feature isn't impemented yet so why is it in the menu?" and exits out. So you have to either use Dot Halo to edit, or open the maps in Dot Halo first to decompress, then edit in HMT, then open them and close them again in Dot Halo to recompress.

I'm not gonna lie, you lost me. I dunno if I'm gonna try to mod the H1 maps or not, but I do you'll know! I thanked you because you tried to help, though. Thanks much!

It's not as complicated as it sounds. Just use Dot Halo.

Open the files; it asks you if you want to decompress, say "yes". Edit your map. Close Dot Halo, it asks you if you want to compress the map; say "yes". DH will sit there for a second looking like it's crashed but it's just compressing. When it's done it says "map compressed"; click "OK". Done.

The only reason I use HMT is because DH crashes if you try to edit projectile values in H1. If you want to use HMT, just open it in DH to decompress, then edit in HMT, close in DH to decompress. You can leave the map open in DH while you edit it in HMT and no conflicts will happen.

Re: Halo 1 Modding (Xbox)

how do u swap watch wat shoot in HMT cuz when ever i do it in dothalo it corrupts or something

ok. i manged to mod halo 1 BUT theres a problem.
halo 1 has some kind of saved cache system so u cant jsut change ur maps by overwriiting liek in halo 2 u have to delete the cache ( i do not no were it is) delete it replace the maps and then u can play. i cant find it so i am stuck with these half done maps...
basically saying. finish ur map before putting it on
