Unknowing's Ipod Troubleshooting Steps

Alright now this step by step instructions on how to fix your ipod if it seems impossible to fix and this is a tribute to AstroManiacX.

Alright there are three main ways to get you ipod back to factory settings if it seems stuck in linux or not working at all.

Way #1: Make sure you are powering it off correctly

Step 1) While in the linux mainmenu select Power then chose Quit Podzilla

Step 2) Blue code and a black background will show and the bottom line should say Execution Finished, Exiting.

Step 3) Now do a hard restart by holding (if an ipod nano) Menu and Select but for the older grayscale ipods it is menu and play/pause.

Step 4) Hold it untill screen goes off then let go and when it shows the unlit up apple logo dont touch anything (or if you have it set so holding rewind at start up boots Apple OS then do that)

Step 5) You are now back in the Apple OS and can restore the ipod to get rid of the Linux

Way #2: Connecting Cords while in Linux

Step 1) Once in the PodZilla Menu Plug in the usb connecter to your ipod

Step 2) If all cords are connected properly a pop up will show up saying "USB Connect Go to Disk Mode? No/Yes"

Step 3) This pop up only lasts about 5 seconds and then it dissapears so click yes and it will restart itself and boot into disk mode

Step 4) Now open up iTunes and restore ipod and Linux is gone

Way #3: Booting Into Disk Mode

Step 1) In either menu (Apple OS or Podzilla) do a hard restart (Menu and select for nano or menu and play for grayscale ipods)

Step 2) When the Apple Logo shows up that is not lit up hold down Select and Play this will boot the ipod into disk mode asuming the USB Cord to your computer is pluged in correctly

Step 3) Now open up itunes and restore ipod and Linux is once again gone


These are the 3 easy methods into fixing your seemingly lost for ever Ipod. As i said at the beggining AstroManiacX's Ipod Nano has screwed up and any help from anyone is much apreciated.

i have a question i put linux on my 1 gig nano but how do i get to the linux boot menu i know that you're suppose to hold rewind but i doesnt'work. can u help me UnknowingAcorn?

hahaha exactly my friend gave me his old nano so i have 2 and his old ipod video so i test things out on them and if i F*** up then i can always drop it down the stairs and smash it outside on cemet well not overkill but a little then call up radioshack and say i droped it when i was outside and it broke (also this covers up the fact that you have illegal stuff on the harddrive of it )

yea but you can never break your ipod by putting a linux on it only if you were to smash it would it break

big hold the middle button and menu and it should show mac logo then hit the rewind it should load if it doesnt you installed it wrong

i ran nanoipl ti install linux so i followed all of the steps until it said linux installed successfully. so i held the big middle button and the menu button then i pressed rewind i then i just go to the ipod nano stock menu

now my ipod wont charge

my ipod will charge with a wall charger but not when i plug it in my pc

thats because you need to have it in Apple OS when its pluged into the computer
basicly not the linux one the other one use my steps to get into it

okay before you put the hacks on there was a different look to it lol you know the normal one with all white and highlights things blue well the linux OS is black and white the other one has color to it

the only thing is that i cant get into the linux menu

well what menu are you in? Apple OS says iPod at the top and Linux OS says Podzilla

Nice now plug it into your computer and if you want to get rid of linux all together open iTunes and choose Restore
