How To Resign Maps/Get Maps To Load ~ By Dem pyros

~How To Resign Maps~
~By Dem Pyros

This very very simple tutorial will teach you how to fix the signature of any Halo 2 map so that it will load on your xbox. This step is required for the map to load on your xbox after doing ANY modification to a map.

For this tutorial i'm going to be using my favorite resigner, SameSig. However, you can also use many other programs to resign.

Please don't be turned off to this tutorial because of it's length, i've tried my best to explain every step in detail as much as possible so everyone can understand it.

Materials Required:
  • Modified Map (either that you made yourself or applied a patch to)
  • Clean (unmodified) Map (that's the same as the modified map, ex. modded lockout and unmodded lockout)
  • SameSig
  • DotHalo
1.) First, download Samesig and DotHalo if you don't have them already.
Code:
Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/15914092/ResignPack.rar.html
Mirror1: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W9Y6NLP9
2.) Now, open up DotHalo.

3.) Once DotHalo is open, click on the "Open Map" button, which should be on the right.

Click the image to open in full size.

4.) A drive box will pop up. Navigate to your modded .map file, and press "Open"

5.) Once the file is open, click on the "Fix Encryption" button next to the Open Map button you just clicked, which has now become "Close Map".

Click the image to open in full size.

6.) When that's finished, a box like this will come up. Just press OK. Don't worry, you don't have to write that down or anything.

Click the image to open in full size.

7.) Now press "Close Map", which is right next to the "Fix Encryption" button you just pressed.

Click the image to open in full size.

8.) And now you're done with DotHalo! Isn't this easy? So, now open up SameSig. Once it's open, it will look somewhat like this:

Click the image to open in full size.

9.) Once open, make sure that the option button for "Beginning Of String Table" is selected. If you don't know already, you do that by clicking on it. Once that's done, SameSig will look like this:

Click the image to open in full size.

10.) Now, at the bottom of the SameSig window you'll see a big button that says "Execute". So press execute! GO GO GO GO!

11.) After pressing it, a drive box will come up. Notice that the "Files of Type" box reads "Origional Halo 2 Map". You might also notice that it's spelled wrong, but that's besides the point. Now, choose the UNMODIFIED version of the map you're editing (clean). Don't worry, you're not changing it. Once you have the unmodified version selected, press "Open". I'm resigning lockout, so i selected my unmodified version of lockout.

12.) Once you've pressed "Open", another drive box will come up. Now notice that the "Files of Type" box reads "Modded/Different Halo 2 Map". Now, choose the MODIFIED version of the map you're editing. This is the exact same map that you opened in DotHalo earlier. This IS the one you're changing (resigning), so make sure you've selected the right one. Once you have it selected, press "Open".

Click the image to open in full size.

13.) Now, a box will come up that says "Are You Sure You Want To Continue?" If you do, then press "Yes". If you don't, why are you reading this tutorial?

Click the image to open in full size.

15.) If you DID press Yes, then you have a surprise for you! ANOTHER confirmation box! This one reads "Both map's encryption must be fixed normally first. Are they?" Well, i ask you, are they? AKA if you skipped the steps involving DotHalo OR your clean (unmodified) map has ever been edited, re-do this tutorial from the beginning with a proper clean map. Otherwise, click "Yes" again.

Click the image to open in full size.

16.) Now, wait a while.

17.) No, wait longer. SameSig has to re-write your map sequentially.

18.) When SameSig is done, a box will pop up. Just click "Ok". But notice that "Original" is still spelled wrong .

Click the image to open in full size.

19.) Now, you can close out of SameSig.

20.) Now, navigate to the place on your computer where you stored your modded map. In my example, i stored the modded map on my desktop in a folder called "Lockout". Once the folder is open, you'll notice that there is an additional file in there. It has the same name as your old modded map, except with an extra ".map" added onto the end of it.

Click the image to open in full size.

21.) Now, delete your regular map file, the one withOUT the extra ".map".

22.) Once that's long gone, you should only have one of your map files left, the one with the extra ".map".

Click the image to open in full size.

23.) Now, we can't have a map with an extra .map on it, can we? Right click on the map, and select "Rename".

Click the image to open in full size.
24.) Now you're renaming the map! YAY!. Simply take away the extra .map on the end so it only has one ".map".

Click the image to open in full size.

Once you're done, press the "Enter" button on your keyboard. It should look somewhat like this:

Click the image to open in full size.

25.) You're done! Now your map is resigned. Now once you FTP it over to your xbox, it will play and not fail to load!
