How to FTP...MADE EASY!! (Section I)
_____________________________________

Section I Written by: tEChniiQue
_________________________________________________

Part 1a: Network Settings for the Xbox (Avalaunch)
_________________________________________________
If you're using Avalaunch as a Dashboard, this section will show youhow to navigate through the dashboard and access settings so they canbe changed to fit your needs.
Once your xbox loads the dashboard…

Click Settings ->

Click the image to open in full size.

Click Network ->

Click the image to open in full size.

Highlight IP Settings ->
Network Settings and Time Server Settings should be displayed on the right side of the screen

Click the image to open in full size.

*DHCP: If you need to enable DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocolautomatically assigns the xbox an IP address, therefore makes your jobthat much easier) just look to the right and see if it has already beenenabled. This option can only be used if you are connecting toyour PC by use of a router. If it has not been enabled, use your keypadto highlight where it says disabled and press the "A button" to enable it. This method is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED for beginners. Now back out, restart your xbox, and the settings will have taken effect.

*STATIC: If you prefer to use aStatic IP address you should disable DHCP in the xbox settings andinput your desired address directly below it. If you are unsure what tomake your Static IP address just use the same one that appeared as theDHCP address or you can make it 5 digits above what your PC's IPaddress is. For example:
PC IP: 192.168.1.100
XBOX : 192.168.1.105
A Static IP will require other settings that can be found within yourPC (Gateway, Subnet, Primary DNS, & Secondary DNS). Somepeople use the Static IP method regardless; whether it is an FTP setupvia a router or by direct connection.
NOTE: If you are using adirect connection to FTP into your xbox, it must be a Static IP addressassigned to both your xbox and the LAN connection on your PC you’reconnecting to. In addition, you must use a crossover cable.

You can get that info by doing the following on your PC.
Click Start ->
Run ->
Type the letters "cmd" without the quotation marks
In simple terms, a black box will appear on your PC's screen.

Click the image to open in full size.

Without any spaces, type "ipconfig/all" (no quotations either)
Hit enter and all of the info you need will appear below what you'vejust typed, write it down or do whatever you need to, just input theinfo required into your dashboard's settings.

*Avalaunch FTP Settings:

Just below the IP Settings in the Avalaunch Dash are the FTP Settings. Scroll down and highlight that option.

Click the image to open in full size.

Your settings should mirror the picture above.
Use nonboost FTP Server: Disabled (being enable has caused ftp issues)
FTP Server: Enabled
FTP Port: 21
Max User: 2 (1 is an alternative)
Show Space on Root: Disabled
Filename Clipping: Enabled
Allow Boostmode: Enabled

Mirroring the above settings should optimize your speeds while using FTP Clients, especially Qwix 1.01.
_________________________________________________

Part 1b: Network Settings for the Xbox (EvolutionX)
_________________________________________________

If you're using EvolutionX as a Dashboard, this section will show youhow to navigate through the dashboard and access settings so they canbe changed to fit your needs.
Once your xbox loads the dashboard…

Scroll down and select System Management ->

Click the image to open in full size.

System Settings ->

Click the image to open in full size.

Now you should be able to see the Network settings forEvolutionX. You will need to scroll down on the screen to viewall options available.

Click the image to open in full size.

**Refer to Part1a: DHCP and Part1a: STATIC for direction on what and how to fill in the settings for your needs.

For the option that is different between Avalaunch and EvolutionX in this section:
Setup Network ------- YES

Once you have the settings you want input into the dashboard, scroll tothe bottom of the screen, save, and restart the console for thesettings to take effect.

*EvolutionX FTP Settings:

Scroll down the screen and look for the FTP section. (Can be found after BIOS and above Telnet)

Click the image to open in full size.

Make sure ENABLE has a YES next to it so that you will be able to FTP with this dashboard loaded.

Once you have the settings you want input into the dashboard, scroll tothe bottom of the screen, save, and restart the console for thesettings to take effect.

Setting up Flash FXP (Section II)
________________________________

**Whether you are using Flash FXP or another FTP Client of yourpreference; make sure it and all other programs have been added to yourFirewall's exceptions list. Not doing so can make the difference in asuccessful connection between your xbox and PC and/or Laptop.** (thank you larrylje for the input)

This section will guide you in setting up a site for your xbox within Flash FXP.

Open Flash FXP ->
Click Sites ->
Site Manager ->
The window below will appear on your screen:

Click the image to open in full size.

The information required here to set up your xbox as a site to FTP into:

- Site Name: can be whatever you want it to be
- IP Address: Can be found on the main screen of your dashboard. This skin you have will depict its exact location on that screen.192.168.?.?
- User Name: xbox (default)
- Password: xbox (default)

Once the minimum info has been input, Click apply and Connect and see if your hard work has paid off.

If your attempt is successful, your screen should look like this:

Click the image to open in full size.

From there you should be able to navigate through your xbox on one side and your PC on the other.

Tips:
* XBOX Remote File Management and ISO Creation Tool Recommendations
- Avalaunch users should use Qwix
- EvolutionX users should use Craxtion
*Flash FXP is a great tool for FTPing and fast
*Cute FTP is also a good and it's FREE
*If you plan on transfering several games to your xbox from your PC orvice verse, I recommend you use an FTP Client like Cute FTP or FlashFXP (seen here).

Are you using a crossover cable?
Are you creating a Static IP for your XBOX and the LAN connection you're using on your PC?
For both Static IP's, are the Default Gateway & Subnet Masks the same?

...for starters...

Well, like the tutorial says...

In order to create a connection via crossover cable 'Static IPs will need to be created for both the XBOX and the LAN connection on the PC being used. A regular straight ethernet cable will not work unless you're using a router for the network instead of directly connecting to your PC.

So you may have to tlk to mom and see what hardware she's got linking your devices in order to get quality FTPing.

hey "the stone jumper", you do not need the default gateway, this lets you get out to the internet, so if you are creating a connection (private) you do not need the gateway. you only need to make sure you ip settings are correct,
remember if you are connecting directly to you box i would suggest to make your computer ip 192.168.1.1 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0. then make you box settings ip 192.168.1.2 and subnet 255.255.255.0
hope this helps you
