well just keep it hooked up to your comp and transfer files but I also herd of people hooking a USB port and having an external hard drive on there xbox

do you mean at the same time or separately?
at the same time i dont think so unless you somehow add another spot to put the ide cable in. otherwise if you unplug your cd drive you will get an error (i know you know that). but at the same time, i think so....i dont see why not as long as you locked it with the right eeprom you would be fine. but i would just format an old drive to factory default and try it. i havent gotten around to doing it yet but it should work imo.

I know you can, Ive seen it done before, I think you might need a chip... why not just buy a larger hard drive?

Because i already have 2 250 Gb hdds and i figured it out you just need to make a switch between the 2 hdds.
