This will delete game updates that have been downloaded via Xbox Live and also the cache. I found that this helps with the Backwards Compatibility for Original Xbox Games, since i kept getting the " The Game Could Not Start " error message all the time for halo 2.

TUTORIAL:

Power On Your Xbox 360 Console,
Once Powered Up, Select the "system" Window Pane,
Then Select The "Memory" Option,
Highlight The Hard Drive You Wish To Maintain, ( Don't Select It )
Then Press The Y Button On Your Control For "Device Options",
You Should Then See "Rename" And "Format" Window,
Just Hold At This Screen, And Press The Following Key Combination:

X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X

If Done Correctly, A Pop Up Window Will Appear Saying, " ! MAINTAIN STORAGE DEVICES", "This will perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices. Do you want to continue?"

Select "yes" If You Wish To Clear ALL Of Your Game Updates, You Can Download Them Again When You Insert A Game Disk (Xbox Live Needed) , And Clear Your Cache.

-or-

Select "no" To Cancel The Maintenance, And Return To The "Device Options" Screen. No Changes Will Be Made.

And For Those That Are Wondering, This WILL NOT Delete Your Game Saves, Downloaded Game Content, Gamertag, Music, Themes, Videos And/Or Gamer Pictures. Nor Will It Change Any Other Settings.

Hope This Is Some Useful Information.
