Next generation Xbox 360 with built-in Blu-ray coming in 2008?

New Xbox 360 model could feature built in Blu-ray drive

Ok, here we go again. Despite Microsoft's attempt to quash Xbox 360 Blu-ray rumors, they're back... with a vengeance. According to "industry sources" speaking to DigiTimes, Lite-On is developing built-in Blu-ray Disc drives for the "next generation" Xbox 360 game console. Lite-On is expected to begin shipping the new BD players for assembly in the second half of 2008. DigiTimes also claims that the new, presumably smaller Xbox 360 will reduce the power supply from 210-watts to 170-watts. So... care to comment, Microsoft?

Microsoft should just put the BD drive in the Elite and make it an option, while keeping the Arcade and Pro at lower prices to appeal to consumers who don't want BD.

I agree, but I think it should also be sold separately for those with the Arcade or Pro. They sell the 120 GB HDD separately, so it gives people the choice, separate or bundled.

I wonder if they'll make an external like the HD DVD for the people who don't want to buy a completely new 360....

It doesn't say that they won't make external drives too. It'd be dumb to make it internal only and screw over everyone who has a 360 now or buys a non-BD 360 in the future.

I completely agree, that's why I was asking

And Krank, I know I saw the picture but as someone said the article said it would be an internal drive so I wasn't sure

Plus the picture is just a HD DVD addon with a BD disc photoshopped in..... Not an official picture.

Agreed. I can tell you I'm not wanting to support Sony and the fail BR. Gonna stick to good ole DVDs until I have to.
