Your post makes no sense... You want to make it is?! If you mean you want to downgrade it back to 1.5 i believe was the first update, you're going to need to see what version you have now by going to system information and seeing what version you have so you can get the correct downgrader.

I don't remember to much because i sold my PSP. But anyways, go to memory i believe then look for a reformat option. And it will ask you if you would like to reformat and delete all your files/items. But i have no idea what you mean by expensive paperweight. If you want to keep some stuff, then delete the stuff you don't want manually.

so if dem didn't have retired under his name it would be ok to flame him?
Anyways
Anyways
- Push the little HOME button on the bottom left of the face of the unit.
- Use the arrow keys to move to the SETTINGS area, then move the up and down keys until you get to System Settings.
- Once you are there, click on the "X" button and scroll up and down as needed to find Format Memory Stick. Click on "X" again to select that option.
- The Sony PSP will now confirm that you want to reformat the memory stick (which removes every file and game save thereon, of course): choose yes and it'll format in just a few seconds

You can either remove the memory stick, or if you still want to use the memory stick with the PSP you can format it like some of the other guys said.
If you're looking into changing firmware that's an entirely different story.
And no, you cannot brick (make it a paperweight) your PSP by formatting your memory stick.
Just FYI.

try and arrange your posts a lil better. every one is having a hard time understanding you. If your talking about using his old settings for logging onto the internet that wont work. You would have to be in the vicinity of his wireless router. As for the update when u install say the 3.52 update it will be that firmware, so yes it skips all the others.
as for restoring it to 'factory settings' go to system settings and format the memory stick. after that is done to restore default settings and do that also.
