Ok so i returned my old xbox to gamestop and got a new one with a Samsung Ver.B

do i need to Flash it to play old maps on live (with a hotswap) i already have a modded disk and the paperclip way works for me .....and what type of CD to i need to make games my friend made it so i dont know

You can flash the Ver. B, yes...

Yes you need to flash the firmware There is a really good tut on this site use the search. Flash Samsung

Yes, only the Samsung Version A plays burned games without being flashed... you can boot off of a burned game and play on live with a flashed drive.

EDIT:A flashed drive is hacked firmware...

(a) Low-level software that is not usually changed. Firmware is now often stored in EEPROM or Flash memory, so it can be erased and updated.

(b) Historically, software that was stored in read-only chips. Since it could not be changed without a hardware change, it was called firmware.

© Commonly used to describe any software on a handheld device.

Yes, the version b requires flashing to play burned games. Just check out the tutorial I linked you to for more information.
