Like many of you here my console was banned from Xbox LIVE. I went to a store and did a gutswap paid in cash and returned it.

I think the people behind the counter knew something was wrong with it but since the cashier opened the box to make sure everything was there they had no proof I opened it.

Everything was going well until I realized I gave them my real phone number when I bought the console. So while driving home I became a little paranoid.

So my question is, has anyone actually been caught for doing a gutswap? and do you think I have any chance at being caught. If you've been or no anyone that has been caught please post.

tl;dr did - did a gutswap, accidentally gave my real phone number, now I'm paranoid.

What are they going to do open it and look at the inside? No.

Well I already returned it and got my money so it's not that I'm really worried about. When someone tries to buy my console and connect it to live they'll return it and say it was a banned console and they have my phone number on record for the person that bought it. I'm probably just over thinking the matter, just a little paranoid.

Well, when someone else buys it, and then they can't connect to live...they'll return it...the place you returned it to will try to return it to M$ and they'll say no way.

in m opinion you could run in there, tell them that you did a gut swap and ripped them off, and then run out hysterically laughing and you still wont get a phone call.

only way i can see u getting in trouble is if they send it back 2 M$ and they find out its banned.... and has been gut swapped...

then they could call the store and ask for the records associated with the box and see your phone number....

then they will come looking for u.........

but why waste all that money when they can just unbann it and re sell it :)

You should always red ring it before you take it back. I've heard of people taking it to BB and booting it up to see the serial number on the dash, not sure if its a true story but none the less.

Most people here don't know what they are talking about.

Where did you do it at? At Wal Mart, I know they send it back to MS if yo usay it is broken. Everywhere else probably does the same thing. If you tell them it is still new, they resell it. You're an ******* if you did that.

Think about it this way. You think a multi-billion dollar company is going to take the time to hunt down someone who scammed them for $200? No.

If they do phone you just say they have the wrong number, you have never owned a xbox in your life. They will just think you gave them the wrong number.

If someone returned it saying the xbox live doesnt work and just bought it, im sure they would replace it and say nothing of it.

If anything someone else must have given your phone number...

I hate people like that

Not even an idiot would give their own phone number when doing something like that- probably it was someone who didn't like you getting back at you ;)

I did it, they didnt ask for my phone number. If they did, id just make one up on the spot. Kind of dumb of you to do it. Plus, if for some REALLY off reason they find it cool to track you down, you never owned an xbox as allyant said.
