Xbox One TV DVR Feature Put "On Hold"

Earlier today, a spokesperson for Microsoft confirmed in a statement to The Verge that "After careful consideration, we've decided to put development of DVR for Over-the-Air TV on hold to focus our attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming experiences across Xbox One and Windows 10."

The above statement comes from Microsoft's attempts of realigning the Xbox One as a gaming-first console over an entertainment-first, with many similar attempts also being made this year such as the shutting down of Xbox Entertainment Studios and unbundling the Kinect.

This announcement comes nearly a year after Microsoft announced a TV DVR function would launch sometime in 2016. Also announced last year, the TV DVR function was to be implemented into the Xbox SmartGlass app and Windows 10 to allow users to schedule and watch recordings from anywhere. As of now, the Xbox One allows users to watch live TV, but doesn't support a recording functionality, with that process being handled by an existing cable box.

With E3 2016 approaching fast, Microsoft has been rumored to announce a much slimmer Xbox One, a more powerful Xbox One — code-named Scorpio, several possible streaming devices, and more at its briefing at the show this year.
