Netflix users trying to watch their favorite shows or movies recently may have been getting this message about pointing fingers at Verizon for the slow playback. As many of you know, Verizon and Netflix have been battling against each other over issues about throttling internet speeds of Netflix services but recently came to terms when they signed a commercial agreement in April. The agreement entitled Netflix to a direct connection to Verizon's network giving their client's enough bandwidth to use the media streaming site but Netflix feels that Verizon is still "throttling" their users.

Baffled by this message, Verizon sent out a cease-and-desist order to Netflix ordering them to take down the message. When questioned about the incident, Netflix told reporters, "This is about consumers not getting what they paid for from their broadband provider. We are trying to provide more transparency, just like we do with the Netflix ISP Speed Index, and Verizon is trying to shut down that discussion." Verizon representative David Young responded to the allegations by stating to CNET, "We can't just snap our fingers and the network is upgraded. We need new facilities. We have to do the equipment engineering. Build it and test it." The rest of the interview with Verizon seemed to only draw more questions as Young began answering around the questions rather than directly engaging them.

The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has been working on the net neutrality regulation so that Verizon and other major ISPs do not abuse their power, but that doesn't seem to stop them from doing so. Even though Verizon claims that they are not throttling their customers who use Netflix, they do say that they are limiting access to them which could be considered the same thing. Improvements to Verizon's facilities and services should be finished within the year, but hopefully video streaming speeds will be improved sooner than expected.

Personally, I believe that Verizon is trying to stall improvements and are still throttling their consumers whenever they are accessing services such as Netflix. Though Verzion could possibly still be doing this, Netflix does have a lot of users that use a lot of bandwidth making it unfair for other Verizon consumers who are experiencing slow speeds.
