Yesterday, Ubisoft announced that a hack of its database revealed email addresses, encrypted passwords, and usernames. Fortunately, no financial information was released. The company released a statement saying that the hackers managed to exploit one Ubisoft's websites "to gain unauthorized access to some of our online systems". Ubisoft went on to say that they managed to shut down the attackers, but they had already managed to gain access to the information by then.
Ubisoft, for "security reasons" decided not give any specific details about the attack, however, they did deny that the exploit was related to UPlay services. The company has already alerted the authorities, and is currently taking measures to patch up the security in its system, though they have stated that "no company or organization is completely immune to these kinds of criminal attacks". It may please some of you to know that access to any of the Ubisoft games was not affected.
Lastly, it is suggested that anyone who has an account with them change their passwords on both ubi.com, and any other website that may share a similar password. Despite the passwords being encrypted, Ubisoft insists that passwords "could be cracked, in particular if the password chosen is weak. This is the reason we are recommending that our users change their password".
How do you guys feel about this? Do you feel the attackers will be back, next time to attempt to gain financial information? Whatever you think, let me know in the comments below!
