As you can see in the above image, you will be able to have a display that projects itself onto a small screen that sits in front of you. Though the technology has been around for more than half a century, it has only been implemented as an accessory for luxury cars for the past three decades. But thanks to the San Francisco based company Navdy, it will be made readily available early 2015 to anyone wanting to make their vehicle feel a little sleeker for only $499.

This device installs easily into any vehicle made after 1996 by plugging into the OBD II port found next to the steering column and sits on your car’s dashboard, displaying information from your smartphone on a 5.1-inch wide glass display. It's different then the luxury vehicle designs which are installed into the dashboard and project the display onto the windshield. The device itself about the size of a small paperback book and features an accelerometer, electron0c compass, light sensor, and Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi transmitters. After syncing to you phone, you will be able to access apps like Google Maps, Spotify, even Twitter. Though waving your hands in front of your face isn't the best idea while driving, you can access these apps by simply saying a command or by a hand gesture in front of the device. And since it is plugged into the OBD II port, it will also be able to display your speed, how much gas is in your car, as well as fuel economy.

This isn't the first of it's kind to come around but it is one of the first to be available in the United States but legal hiccups might get in the way. States already have laws implemented like California stating that the maximum size of a windshield-mounted device is 5x5 inches. Though Navdy is in the clear with their model, it's still a question as to whether or not this is safe for use while driving. Studies from AAA have already decided that this is not beneficial to the safety of driving but it is a better alternative to looking at your smartphones.
