SmartEgg: The Universal Remote for Your Home

With nearly every electronic device in your home comes another device that controls it. Your television and your Blu-Ray player are some of the first things that come to mind. What if you could have one device that controls everything at once? Maybe you could have your lights on and your favorite channel ready and waiting before you even walk into your door? With SmartEgg, all of this and more is possible.

SmartEgg was created with the simple ability to control any infrared-enabled device from your smartphone via Bluetooth. Backed with an ever-growing cloud database that currently has over 5,500 remote controller and 125,000 IR codes, SmartEgg is able to send over 250 IR protocols. This means you’ll be able to use it with almost any IR device you have in your home, including older IR capable devices. Due to SmartEgg’s “self-learning” ability, you’ll be able to use it with other devices currently not listed in the database, which according to the developers, is unlikely to happen.

The customization options for SmartEgg were created in mind with the fact that in most homes, multiple devices work with one another, especially in a smart home theater setup. SmartEgg will allow you to combine the stored “control keys” for your home devices to allow certain devices complete a specific task in a sequence, or have multiple devices function at once. These actions are called Scenes, and can be triggered multiple ways. A few examples of a custom Scene would be being able to turn on TV and DVD player at the same time, or you can switch to DVD Input, eject DVD and play. SmartEgg can also track your exact position in your home and track your movement using Bluetooth 4.0 beacon technology. You’ll be able to trigger your custom Scene by using the SmartEgg controls on your smartphone, or you can have it set so that your Scene automatically triggers when you walk within your custom desired range of the SmartEgg.

The Scene function can also be used to add a timer to multiple electronic devices in your home. You can set your television to be your alarm, or simply have the news ready for when you wake up for work. You can have all of your lights set to automatically turn on or off at specific times, or have your thermostat heat or cool down your home long before you arrive. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the customization options available to SmartEgg users. The device is small and portable, you can easily take and use it anywhere you wish. Its IR emitter will cover up to 10 meters and its Bluetooth range extends up to 50 meters outdoors and 20 meters when indoors, which mean SmartEgg will always have you covered. You can even take it when you go outdoors and remotely control your camera for all your outdoor adventuring needs, or when you simply need to take a nice group photo.

A few bonus features include a temperature monitor that will allow users to trace temperature changes throughout their home over a span of 1 year. SmartEggs will also come with an ECO mode, which will automatically adjust your air conditioner to a comfortable temperature based upon the data it gathers from current environmental stats. You’ll even be able to control things like fan speed, modes, and temperatures using the simple interface on your smartphone. And if you’re ever busy with a phone call and can’t find the TV remote to lower the volume, SmartEgg has you covered. The device will come with an Auto Mute feature that will mute your television whenever you answer a phone call, and will automatically unmute once you hang up.

Overall SmartEgg aims to be an easy to use, all-in-one device that makes our home lives easier. Smart devices seem to only be improving in features and as time goes on, managing many devices at once may become quite a tedious task, so it’s great to have a device aimed at controlling everything at once.
