As of recently, a few game developers have been dabbling with the idea of space exploration. Games such as Destiny, and the upcoming No Man’s Sky are a few that have taken this idea and rolled with it. In turn they have produced monumental titles that can still only scratch the surface of how vast the universe really is. Now, Mindfield Games is looking to be the next development studio to get involved in this increasingly popular genre.

Founded in 2013 by avid gamers and long-time industry experts, Mindfield Games has been based around virtual reality from the get-go. Although they’ve been around for two years, P.O.L.L.E.N. will be their very first video game release, only producing multiple mobile games beforehand. P.O.L.L.E.N. is currently going through the Greenlight process, only making its first appearance on Steam earlier today.

The game takes a pretty interesting twist on the history of space exploration, starting with the fact that the assassination of President Kennedy has been a failed attempt. Therefore opening the door to many possibilities of what could have been, had he not been killed back in the 60s. Starting off with NASA combining forces with the soviet space program, constructing a permanent moonbase in the 70s, along with the creation of more advanced space technology that could surpass what is currently available today. Somehow there have also been inventions made in the field of anti-gravity, allowing humans to push farther into space than what was thought to be possible at the time.

All of these events progress through the 90s, and bring forth Rama Industries. Rama being a company that is expanding space exploration far beyond what its current status had been. They push forward these technological advances, ultimately discovering that Titan, Saturn's largest moon, has an atmosphere, along with vast liquid seas under the surface. This is where the main protagonist will come into play, venturing out to the research station on Titan to replace a lost mechanic.

P.O.L.L.E.N.
is looking to be an extremely immersive experience, allowing you to interact with any object or piece of equipment that you come across. Although what is known about the storyline so far is just a backstory, it can be assumed that players will be exploring the research station in an attempt to unfold what went wrong, and why the crew has disappeared.

The developers at Mindfield have said there is a press event planned for later this year, which will hopefully bring to light some more details on what can be expected in their new game. P.O.L.L.E.N. has been specifically optimized for VR, although it will also be available on PC for those of us who do not plan on purchasing a VR headset. An exact release date has not been set, but the game is expected to hit shelves some time in the first quarter of 2016.
