2K and Gearbox Software announced today that Battleborn, their new first-person shooter, will be available on February 9th, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Battleborn comes from the developers of Borderlands, and that is easy to see, the sense of humor is easily recognizable. But there's no doubt that this is a brand new IP. As Borderlands was focused on loot, loot and more loot, Battleborn is all about building and experimenting to see what your characters are capable of. No matter what mode you are playing, you are unlocking new abilities which can all be tweaked, along with news skins and shiny badges. You will need those to save the world, which is what you are there to do.

The game is set in the distant future, where "the only hope for the last star in a dying universe is a new breed of warriors who must put aside their differences to drive back an unstoppable menace." The game's story mode can be played both solo and co op, and also features a split screen option. You can shoot your way through missions with up to 4 of your friends in the game, or bring all of them along to the mulitplayer where you can 5v5 other trigger happy players in 3 different competitive modes. They are named Incursion, Devastation and Meltdown, which are the developers way of describing classic multiplayer modes where you defend a base, capture zones or simply kill as many of your opponents as possible.

With the announcement came this new trailer and an official reveal of 4 more playable characters. 10 of the total 25 have already been presented, you can read their descriptions in the spoiler below.
Ambra Born into an ancient order of priestesses responsible for discovering a way to prolong life indefinitely, Ambra was betrayed by her leader and her faction, the Jennerit Empire, and now fights alongside the Battleborn. She is a specialist hero, dealing damage up close through her melee attacks and powerful abilities, while healing her allies in the process.

Mellka A stealthy assassin, Mellka lost her parents at a young age before eventually earning her place among the Eldrid’s black op’s and intelligence bureau. Her life has been defined by a series of staggering losses, but her response to these losses was never despair – it was fury. She strikes quickly, disorienting foes with her nerve gas machine pistol and bio-glaive melee attacks.

Reyna Known by her followers as “The Valkyrie,” Reyna was born aboard the Rogue faction’s ailing junk heap of a flagship and is a native to the last star system. Reyna has fought tirelessly for the freedom of her space pirate comrades, finding her calling as their inspirational leader. She dishes damage with her laser pistol and uses her command glove to support her teammates.

Benedict August Benedict Jr. is one of several surviving races of bird-like “Aviant” refugees. He swore allegiance to the Peacekeepers where he’s gained considerable notoriety for being a self-centered jerk that’s capable of astounding destruction with his rocket launcher. Double jumping, rocket jumping, and flying – Benedict’s good at all of them and he lets his teammates know it.

    Miko (Healer, ranged combat)
The last surviving bud of a once planet-sized fungal colony, Miko is widely known as compassionate and is a very skilled healer. Now more of a combat botanist, Miko devotes its time to restoring all which can be restored and throwing kunai at things which cannot be restored.

    Boldur (Tank, close combat)
Boldur the Unbearable is a stubborn, axe-wielding native of Ekkunar who has survived the last two millennia of interruptions to his quiet forest life through sheer stubbornness and the aid of the civilian militia he leads called the Woodsworn. Tough as a gnarled root, the Ekkuni dwarf carries only a rune-forged axe and shield into battle against any foe who dares land their dropship in his front yard.

    Caldaruis (Stealth, ranged combat)
Caldarius won his name, fame, and eternal Sustainment in the Jennerit Fighting Pits. Armed in the jet-enhanced J-HTX Assault Frame armor of the Jennerit Shock troops, Caldarius is brutally efficient at hit and run close quarters fighting.

    Marquis (Support, ranged combat)
Marquis d’Caliber was once butler to Phoebe before an odd encounter with the LLC‘s AI leader, the Magna Carta, altered his personality. Now, this high-society sociopath wreaks havoc on the unwashed masses with his sniper cane Bindlebane and his explosively temperamental mechanical owl, Hoodini.

    Montana (Tank, ranged combat)
When he’s not clotheslining bears for fun, Montana can be found on the battlefield, soaking up industrial-sized buckets of hurt and suppressing enemies with his fearsome mini-gun. A friend to everyone, Montana controls the Battlefield with sprays of ice or fire, and sometimes just a good old fashioned knock-the-tree-down-with-my-shoulder dash.

    Thorn (Speed, ranged combat)
Teshka Elessamorn – nicknamed Thorn for her short temper – was the last child of her homeworld before it was darkened by the Varelsi. Thorn ranges the jungle-wilds of Ekkunar and beyond with her bow Kreshek and her battle-honed skill with advanced Eldrid magic“.

    Rath (Speed, close combat)
Verod Rath is not a vampire, though he gets that a lot. Rath is a master bladesmith and swordsman of the Jennerit Empire, once a member of the Keepers of the Blade – the elite guard of Empress Lenore. Rath is deeply focused on the art of battle, applying his three energy blades with lethal efficiency.

    Phoebe (Tank, close combat)
Inventor, adventurer, and heiress to one of the largest family fortunes within the Last Light Consortium, Phoebe Elizabeth Audelia Hemsworth the Fourth is NOT to be trifled with. Always ready for adventure, Phoebe rushed to the aid of the universe, accompanied by her multi-phasal sabre, Addonexus, earning her the title of “the Mageblade” among her friends. Phoebe is lured by her fascination with Eldrid magic

    Orendi (Speed, ranged combat)
Feared even by members of our own faction, the unhinged and unpredictable Orendi channels powerful magic-like energies, striving to test herself against the universe’s greatest foes. She has more than earned the title “the Chaos Witch“.

    Oscar Mike (All-round, ranged combat)
Cloned to fight in a war that ended years ago, Oscar Mike now brings well-crafted modern combat instincts to theSolus War, with the effective, sure fire of earnest objectives, strong missions, and excellent personal hygiene. Master of the UPR-AR7 Assault Rifle and the UPR-MkII Battle Augmented Deflective Armor Stealth Suit.

Prior to the release there will be an open beta, more information about this will be available later this year.

Def going to try this out.
If the trailer is anything to go by (cough) then it looks like Team Fortress 2, Borderlands and Disney had an
exotic love child after a peyote fueled, sexy-time rampage.

YES! I AM HYPED AS HELL FOR THIS GAME! Loved every Borderlands game and seeing this is probably going to be the best game I have played in the new generation

idk about this game being like borderlands or destiny...where did those selections come from? you can plainly tell from reviews/the trailer above that it's similar to SMITE and the like. sorry, can't think of any of the other games in that genre. anyway, i'm interested in it and very psyched for it's release. i'm sure gearbox won't let us down...(fingers crossed)

Could get bigger than borderlands, but nothing close to competing with Battlefield and Call of Duty.

First Person Shooter, not the same type? Oh ok.

Lol if you go that route you can say that borderlands never compares to CoD. Military FPS .......
    4. TKtoastie
Do you think this will be anything like tf2 or Overwatch?
  5. Wavy
Not a fan of the graphics, but it was made by the same devs of Borderlands... I guess that is what the beta is for!
  6. Zelkaar
Nice article, but it looks to me like a game trying to copy the game that copied them. It looks like Borderlands trying to be Destiny, just like Destiny tried to be Borderlands. Honestly this game doesn't interest me much, c'mon give us Borderlands 3 already!

You will notice the big gun user closely resembles one of the characters of Battleborn. This was a game they were currently making before scrapping it and using the idea for Battleborn
