While still working on their upcoming new Xbox exclusive IP, Quantum Break, Remedy Entertainment are also making plans for future projects. The studio's chief creative officer Sam Lake told Polygon that they are currently talking to Microsoft about the possibility of bringing a port of Alan Wake to the Xbox One. Microsoft published the game back in 2010 as a Xbox 360 exclusive, and that is pretty much where the project ended, with 4.5 million copies sold and a small standalone downloadable game, released in 2012. If things go according to Remedy's plans, we will get to see Alan Wake again, this time on the Xbox One. As Microsoft owns the rights to the game, PlayStation owners will be missing out again.

However, as revealed last week, the 360 exclusive Alan Wake was always meant to have a sequel, it just didn't happen due to the lack of a publisher. The prototype footage that was made to help sell the game to publishers was recently released, and gives us a glimpse of what what we missed. Maybe with some luck, we will get to experience the rest of the story soon, as Remedy still haven't given up hope to create the continuation of their story. If Microsoft doesn't want to see the franchise move on, Remedy is free to do as they please, they still own the rights to any future games. So even if the prototype footage failed to do its task back in 2010, it just might help the developers get one step closer to success now.

"It's not like a potential sequel of Alan Wake would be only something that someone who has already played everything in the Alan Wake franchise can enjoy," Lake says, and continues to explain that even if Microsoft decides to leave the project behind, there might still be a way to publish a new game. Although the original was published on Xbox 360 as an exclusive, there is nothing that says a sequel can't be enjoyed by PS4 players. Both the original and the spin-off title Alan Wake's American Nightmare found their way to PC, so that is a possibility too.

"Ultimately, these things are business decisions, we are definitely not ruling anything out and looking at different opportunities, but nothing is set in stone at the moment."
